My BetterNetworker.com "Master Plan"
I've been making great strides with my "Social Experiment" on another social networking site, LiveJournal (my username is the same there if you'd like to read my personal blog). In addition, I'm developing the infrastructure and banking content for the professional services website I plan to launch on my 48th birthday later this year.
One of the premises that I use in my coaching business is that transparency builds trust. People will trust you more if you open your lives to them. Making mistakes is not always a deal-breaker (unless you can't break the cycle of poor decisions), and transparency engenders trust by allowing others to see that we're all "human" and that no one is perfect.
So, in the spirit of transparency, I am revealing my "Master Plan" for leveraging BetterNetworker.com for success. I'm laying out my goals, and will be making daily updates to document my progress. (More about my rating system in today's blog).
My goals from now until 06/25/09 (the launch date for my website) are as follows:
1) Add at least 1 new friend to my network daily.
2) Comment on at least 1 one guestbook daily with a positive comment.
3) Add at least one piece of content daily (either article or blog).
4) Make one group post daily to the group that I lead or any that I am a member of, the content should either be useful, thought-provoking or conversation-generating.
5) Establish a business contact list for Yahoo Instant Messenger and host "office hours" to network with other BetterNetworker.com members who might be interested in joint business ventures.
6) Remain positive, give back even before I've gotten anything out of the community, and hope that my work here gets noticed by the "big guys" in the industry.
7) Be respectful of others and only provide the details of my opportunity if asked. I've been trying very hard not to even provide a link in my signatures (although I advocate this technique and use it all over everywhere else).
8) Develop statistical data on the usage and habits of those on BetterNetworker.com. Things like "How many users create a profile and are never heard from again?" or "Which groups generate the most traffic and why?" or "Who is out there providing useful content without spamming their opportunity all over the place."
9) Stay positive and focused.
10) Limit my time on BetterNetworker.com to 1 hour per day (there is other stuff I need to be doing, after all).
