My most disliked "old style" MLM tactic!

THE "JUST GOT BACK FROM A LIFE-CHANGING EVENT" EMAIL!

I received an email from someone who I thought was a friend the other day.  She had "just got back" from a training event that her company had put on.  Seems that she has decided to add me to the list of prospects that she is chasing about her business opportunity.

I have seen this tactic used and encouraged in my own company but have always refused to use it as it always made me feel uncomfortable and personally I found it unsavoury.

The primary objective in contacting people like this is to make them feel a "HUGE SENSE OF LOSS" that they were not there.  It's also to make them feel as if they missed out on some life-changing information that was sure to make them "mega-millionaires" in record time!

It gushed with stuff that I suppose was supposed to impress me, such as:-

  • the people I have met and made friends with from all over the world who all want to help me succeed!
  • the beautiful places that I have seen and the lifestyle I know I will achieve from growing my business!
  • the wisdom I have gained and how that will explode my business! (well it can't go anywhere but up I suppose)
  • the un-imaginable riches that you could also have as well if you joined! (shame that this person is only spending money at the moment and spending most of her day chasing new prospects!)

Then it made all the usual prospecting comments of WHAT IF you found an opportunity where you had all the training, support and guidance.......

My response to that would be WHAT IF I was offered
training and guidance on how to do my current chosen
business in a tasteful way that made people chase me!

I felt quite disappointed and offended while I read the email.  I thought that this person was a friend.  I did not think I was a prospect for her opportunity.  I actually thought that we had a mutual respect and understanding that she was in her chosen business opportunity, I was in mine, and that neither of us where there trying to 'poach' the other.

I gather this is one of those tactics that make you "lose friends and infuriate people!!"
