My Perfect Business - As Written on a 3 x 5 Card in 1985
Back in 1985, we were living in a canal front home located in a prestigious waterfront neighborhood which is part of Clearwater, Florida. I was thinking about my business. I was very dissatisfied with the way things were going. On the surface people who knew me, may have thought, things were rosy. I knew better.
Looking at my distribution business I saw the huge overhead of 18 employees and all the headaches associated with keeping the business we had going.
We had Insurance costs alone, of $25,000.00 per year.
We were in debt to banks by more than I want to even write here.
We owed even more to our vendors.
We were on a treadmill running to keep up.
Our industry was about to hit a massive wall, that we did not yet see coming.
I thought: Jay, is there a perfect business for you? I was inspired to write up a card with what My Perfect Home Based Business would look like. I still have that original card today. It seemed important to keep it. Did my perfect business exist? I did not know but I knew that it was what I wanted.
My Perfect Business
1. Must be in demand by a broad cross section. (of people)
2. Must be duplicatable. (I can only do so much)
3. Repeat Business - With Residual Ongoing Income
4. Low Startup costs.
5. A Growing field
6. Good Profit Potential
7. Work for Myself
8. Legal and Ethical
9. Low Risk (of capital)
10. Low Overhead
11. Non-Seasonal
12. Inheritable Income
I knew that nothing we had done previously fulfilled these criteria. We had no idea what business this would be, at least we didn’t at that time.
Later when I found network marketing I realized that I had found my perfect business.
Will my My Perfect Home Based Business be something you like as well?
Only you can answer that question.
