Before you jump on to the next automated structured program to get you 10,000 followers by next week, why not take a look at some quick tips that can get you more followers on Twitter.

• Focus on your current followers: Now before any of us start running off to gather more followers don't forget about your current ones! "It costs 6 times as much energy and money to create a new customer as it does to keep an existing one." - People get dropped at the click of the button, you want to be engaging your current followers and forming relationships, this should be your number one priority over everything else!
• Be Remarkable: I originally heard this from Perry Belcher and it made complete sense. being remarkable is merely to be "remarked about" or to be talked about. Tweet what is on your mind, be yourself, attract others. *Tweet chronically, and tweet often!* Tweet stuff that just has to be retweeted by others, if you start up viral material you will be amazed at how fast stuff can spread over the net. Oh, and of course do not tweet mindlessly, someone who constantly tweets self promoting stuff will never get many followers...
• Promote on a website: This goes without saying. Post it here, post it on your profile, on your blog, talk about it, drop a link to your profile in an article (lol), just spread the word about Twitter and what you are doing with it. Exposure is key!
• List Yourself: There are a couple of directory sites in which you can maintain exposure in targeted categories. Don't know what I mean? Visit Just Tweet It or TwitDr.
• Carve a Niche: What I mean here is to find a way to use your Twitter account that separates you from others. This is not only a tip for Twitter but life in general online. 

Most importantly remember that numbers are just numbers. You can have 1,000 followers who do not know you or care for what you have to say; and you can have 100 dedicated followers who will end up doing you more good than a mere 1,000 faces :)

Second most important: There is no secret formula to getting a ton of followers, rather there are a number of small tweaks you can do to the way you use Twitter that can help. These daily adjustments in your mind set coupled with the simple tips listed above should get you more followers in no time :)
