Network Marketing Leadership Skills for Leaders in the Making:

Becoming a Network Marketing Leader requires leadership skills- and if you don't have them, you'll need to get some leadership training. Things have changed lately with the use of the internet as a powerful tool to grow Network Marketing businesses.The leadership development and training that's taking place, while still acknowledging the importance of mindset and attitude, also places emphasis on more tangible leadership and marketing skills. Why? Because this is what savvy Network Marketers are looking for in an upline or team.

If you cannot show your prospects how to build a business online, you wont come across as an attractive leader. of course all the traditional qualities required in a leader are as important as before- but now you have to also be able to teach building online.

This article will show you what online leadership skills you will need to develop and what steps to take while you are doing your leadership training.

New Network Marketing Leadership Skills

Network Marketing leadership development will mean you'll have to learn  real attraction marketing and how to navigate on the internet technically.

Realise that the internet is a powerful tool, but there's a steep learning curve for most network marketers- especially if all you've been taught up to now is Old School methods of generating leads.

When I started, it felt as if I had taken two steps forwards and three steps backwards.  The overwhelm started getting to me and I know this is the same for many of my students. (I have subsequently posted an article on information overload- which is helping many of them).

Here's a road map that has been very helpful in my leadership development journey.

1.    Join a Step by Step Internet Attraction Marketing Training Programme

One that gives you visual tutorials on how to set up your presence on the web to start attracting prospects to you. Try to look for one that has in built mentoring or guidance for those times when you are stuck or need to take it to the next level. Make sure this is low cost but affordable. If the school has an affiliate programme attached to it, it’s even better for two reasons: Firstly you can very quickly generate income through referring people to the school, which pays for your tuition. Secondly, your referrals (prospects) get a training system to plug into. You can point them in the right direction and offer support and guidance but not actually do all the training yourself. note: This should be more than just a funded proposal system- you still need to learn to attract prospects to your lead capture pages!

2.    Learn the Basics thoroughly. 

• Learn how to get found on the internet.
• Learn about keyword research.
• Learn how to create written content and video to put up at Web 2.0 locations.
• Learn how to make your own blog.
• Learn to write so that your audience is “pulled in” to you and your recommendations.
• Learn how to market your blog and web content through SEO.
• Learn to use the phone to build the relationship with your prospects and continue the attraction by giving value.
• Learn to set up effective capture pages that target different audiences related to your business.
• Learn to set up an effective auto email campaign to your target market(s). Have patience. Especially if you are new. Learning these things takes time. Don’t skip the essential learning curve. Once you’ve got it down, you be able to teach this stuff. It’s highly sought after right now so you’ll be attractive to a lot of learners that come on board after you.

3.    Use Two or Three affiliate Programmes/Funded Proposal Systems

Funded Proposal Systems help generate leads and cash flow. It just means being paid while you prospect. (These are products or services/systems you use besides your primary MLM).
Ideally the products should be what you find helpful in your business building efforts. As you use them yourself you will get to know them well and be in a good position to recommend them with confidence.

Remember, the resources you recommend must relate to your target market’s interests. If you are in network marketing, you might want to attract people interested in joining a network marketing opportunity or network marketers looking for training on how to improve their current business. You need to be able to demonstrate your leadership capacity and referring prospects to good helpful resources positions you as knowledgeable.

Become an expert on your recommended resources so you will know exactly how they “fit” with your target market’s needs and you will be able to help them buy, set them up or move through the training (if it’s a training course).

In our industry we have excellent books, tools and training programmes, lead generation systems and business opportunities that can provide solutions for our target markets and at the same time, as you help them through the programme, you have an ideal opportunity to develop a closer working relationship that can lead to all sorts of other  opportunities: Like you can offer your services as a coach for which you get paid. Or your prospect might enjoy the way you work  and help them so much, they might decide you are the network marketing leader they are looking for and join you in your MLM.

This is where you learn about two of the most well known affiliate programmes (Magnetic Sponsoring and the Renegade Network Marketer system) and how to do all of basics in step 2 and 3 above and 5 below. 4.    Find a guide that can help you and support you.
Someone you click with. Someone that’s on the same page as you and that can really teach you Web 2.0 marketing strategies and give personalized coaching to help with strategy and goals.

5.    Get to know the Social Networking sites:
Twitter, FaceBook and BetterNetworker are hot right now. Take time to learn the Social Etiquette before you jump in and start marketing. These are areas where you can generate hundreds of leads and get the teaching and ongoing mentoring you will need to grow your business. (Renegade University teaches this as well).

6.    Join a Mastermind Group
This is so helpful because you can come with questions and give support to your peers. Peer learning is very powerful and very supportive to work with colleagues. It also opens up future business dealings like JV’s and Co-ops.

Here’s an example of what I am doing:

I am being mentored by my coach on a weekly basis. And I also have my own students.

What my coach (Barbara Silva) has done for me:
•    She looked over my blog, gave me tips on how to improve the writing, how to inject my personality into the blog and how to create a great review on two of my affiliate programmes.
•    She showed me how to track my results (see where my traffic was coming from).
•     She looked at my overall linking strategy – making my links from my other content to my blog more of a coherent overall strategy.
•    She looked at my keywords and optimized my content for those words
•    She taught me about the value of combining video with my writing.
•    Next week she will brainstorm with me content for an auto email series (I need to develop a newsletter of about 20 drips).
•    By being coached, I am learning how to coach!

What I do for my students:

•    I introduce myself to them and let them know I am here to help them. I call them up personally and offer a free consultation to help them walk through the Renegade University Training Programme.
•    I have helped with various conceptual understanding for example explaining what affiliate marketing is, Web 2.0, how to generate multiple sources of income, how to get found on the internet through search engine searches etc
•    Show them how to setup their affiliate links for a number of affiliate programmes
•    Where and how to buy and forward domain  names (and explained the importance of it),
•    Review and critique of content.  (Writing style and flow)
•    How to do proper keyword research to determine demand and supply of the word.
•    How to link content together to create a “web of content”
•    How to track their results.

So the bottom line is for Beginner leaders in the Making: Learn, Digest and Teach. Over and over  and over again. The biggest thing you need to realize is that to grow any business takes time, commitment and continuous learning.

And in our business, the more you teach what you have learned, the bigger your business will grow.
