Old School v/s Todays School

Read More: Prospecting  |  Sponsoring and Recruiting

I am learning very quickly here in betternetworker that the vast majority of the people here use the internet extensively!!!  The people that showed me how to do this business are "old school".  They prospect belly to belly and have had tremendous results.  They have a theory that no one wants to have meetings, mixers, or parties.  So, they decided to facilitate everyone and have them themselves for there entire team to take advantage of for their prospects.  They travel all over the country as long as there teams can get 30 people in a room within driving distance they are there and if  they can get 50 people in a room they are there period.  I have adopted this to my own teams and it is a great motivating tool when they know they can have a leader come do a mixer for them...  I only do the ones within driving distance myself because of the budget I am operating under for now!  But wow, what excitement you can create with people in person.  I am teaching powerpoints and great mixer ideas to the affiliates below me that have shown they have this leadership mindset and a drive to build on concrete and not sand...  It keeps me connected with my teams and I know where to motivate and I can be the teacher of the system to my leaders who will then take on that same responsibility for their teams in time...

I am learning very fast about this modern "todays school".  I see great growth potential by using the internet in all the various ways and have attracted several affiliates to my team by using the internet.  I have found there are great advantages to using the net but also some very large drawbacks.  The more that is done via internet and software, the less personalized your business seams to become.  There is not as much contact and it is more about finding self starters than team members and future leaders.  It is also harder to train these people to use the "system" when they signed up on a different one.  The numbers are definitely there and you can definitely build a big starting team but is the duplicatable system really there to get them to learn the products, company, and processes???  I mean even the training can be done via software...  Yes it is a great time saver, but is your team really building a confient bond with their uplines by using it???  I have seen the percentages of people actively working their business  much lower than the ones I have been "belly to belly with and are in constant contact with!!!

I realize this internet is a great tool and there are great systems in use to help you grow.  My worry is that if you base your business soley on the internet it is being built on an unknown sand...  I see making good money in the short term then falling apart as time goes on...  If you are with a credible company with good products wouldn't you rather have longevity???  I mean they call our income "residual"!!!  Some people will always think they know more than what is proven to be effective and do things there own way.  I have an analogy for that:  "whith each business builder on my team I am riding a two seater bicycle with them.  I will pedal as fast as they do or as slow as they do, but if I see them heading for a cliff I am going to jump off".   So I guess there is a balance that can be attained and no one is going to turn down new business builders of any kind as long as they are motivated to succeed.  I just wanted to throw it out there for discussion so maybe I can learn something new and become better at my business...  Thanks in advance for your responses!!!

Hi Kevin.

Great post!! You are so right... I truly believe that long term success has to be built on personal contact. In my past experience the best way to build long term income is by having a good rappor with individuals. I built my massage therapy business on a zero budget and made sure to go the extra mile with my clients and not only do they keep coming back they also refer me to other people. Free advertising!! Now I am hoping to build the same online. This is a good medium to connect with a lot of people around the world and yes the tools the Net provides are valuable.  Although in my opinion we still have to have personal contact.

Sincerely, Dorie
