Older Established Opportunity vs Exciting New Startup
I had a nice conversation this morning with an excellent young prospect. This gentleman had visited this blog and viewed my profile. He called to inquire about my particular network marketing business.
I’ll call this prospect Greg.
Greg is 22 years old, and started his first network marketing business when he was 18. He joined with a well-known company and proceeded to build a nice, above average income - quite a good start for a college age young man.
At any rate, his company experienced some financial setbacks and began sending checks out late, or not at all. Greg was unable to resolve these issues with the company, and chose to resign and move on.
Greg is looking for a new and exciting opportunity (one that is past start up but far from what we could call “established”). My particular affiliation is with an older, more established company. Very strong and stable, forever an outstanding opportunity, but older.
From our conversation, I sensed that Greg might be drawn to a much newer company - perhaps an opportunity just coming into view over the horizon. While discussing the nature of network marketing opportunities, we talked about the most important things to consider.
- when choosing a network marketing opportunity, first evaluate the products for quality and value. Would anyone want to buy them if no commission was attached? Is there long-term demand, not just a fad?
- second, evaluate the company and its leaders. Dig and search as much as you can. Ask people you trust what they think of it. If they haven’t heard of it, show them the information and get opinions before you sign up.
- third, don’t get bogged down into micro-analyzing compensation plans. Do study the plan and understand how you’ll make money, but don’t dwell on fine detail that means little. If you have the right product and the right company, you’ll make money with any good compensation plan.
- finally, do you feel enthusiasm about the products and opportunity? If they are nutritional products, are you excited about talking to people about them? Don’t choose an opportunity based solely on “buzz” and compensation, look at all sides of the experience.
I’m not sure what direction Greg will take, but I hope today that I was able to help him along in his search for the “perfect network marketing opportunity” for him.

You have to think like a prospect...
When choosing any company you have to think like a prospect. If you think like a sales person things drop through the cracks.
