Our Oasis

My name is John Sims and I would like to tell you a little story for a few minutes.  Like a lot of you, I have been in the work place for a long time.  And like a lot of you both older and younger, I have been looking for my piece of the American Dream!  It seems to me that we all want that for us and our families but, where do you look?  How do you look for it?  Who do you ask?  These are very important questions that we have going through our heads constantly as we keep looking and dreaming.  We have a lot going against us in our search, our families, friends and co-workers all trying to crush that dream.  And look out if we finally decide to go for it and fail!  Do we cash in our 401K quit our jobs and start a francheise?  Do we try and borrow money from our family or bank and go into hock to realize this dream?  Or do we look at the internet and try network marketing parttime while we are still working.  Hey, that might be a great place to go!  After all, it's been around for a long time and I hear so many people talking about it and also how they are making so much money by selling things on E-Bay and finding opportunities everywhere.  So, we start looking into something that we probably don't know anything about!  Somehow we find out that we can use Google and type in words like network marketing and MLM and wow, the opportunities are flying at us!  Unfortunately, here is where a lot of us get sucked into the MLM opportunity black hole.  Maybe not right away, but eventually after reading several of these "carnival" type headlines, we are slowly talked into entering the "tent" and become overwhelmed by hype, lies, and  unrealistic promises.  If we had been "pitched" these opportunities by someone on the street or read about them in the newspaper, maybe we would have been more cautious but, this is the internet with all of its hype, color pictures, videos of successful people and their testimonials!  At this point a lot of us have been worn down and weaken to the point that we make the plunge.  Some of us pay a little, some of us pay a lot!  Our excitement is high along with our anticipation of success.  We begin dreaming about what we will do with the money after it starts rolling in.  Imagine the trips and things we will be able to buy for ourselves and our families.  

Anyway, reality sets in and we realize that what we were sucked into was not at all how it turned out.  All we are getting from our upline is spend more money on tapes, leads and being told that we are not doing enough to be successful.  We have to recruit more people into the opportunity, don't we have friends and family that would be interested in this great opportunity?  So, now some of us start reading more of the opportunities that we are blasted with on a daily basis.  What are we doing?  We realize that we probably got into the wrong company and start looking for the right one, knowing that it is out there!  Little do we realize that we are out in the "internet desert" without a map.  We will wind up going from company to company listening to the hype and hoping inside that this guy is telling us the truth and that this is really the one!  

Fortunately, somehow a few of us find BetterNetworker whether by luck, a friend or just through determination we arrive here!  It's like finding that oasis in the "internet desert".  Wow, there are travelers here just like me, thirsty, hungry and a little beat up.  We start off by just reading articles, bios and being very cautious.  We don't want to let our guard down because we know what happens when we do that!  But, after a while, we begin to realize that these people are friends and are just like me, looking for kindness, freindship and maybe a little direction to that mystical city, a network marketing company that isn't going to rip me off.  My story has come to a happy ending, I am vey please to be a part of this "community" and look forward to reading about all of you and sharing my ideas and thoughts.  This is what I thought network marketing was all about, I just did not know it would take me so long to find it.  The sad part of this story is that there are so many others out there still lost, wandering around not knowing that we are here waiting with open arms and the opportunity to say that "it's not their fault that things have turned out the way they have" and there is still a great opportunity awaiting them!
