The 5 Characteristics You MUST Have for Success

There are many roads to success, but to make it down any of those roads there are 5 characteristics you must have (or acquire if you don't have them). They apply to both building a business and life in general. These simple things are what keep you from being sidetracked or defeated by obstacles that pop up along the way. Once you know what they are, you must train yourself to use them when necessary. And when you do, there is nothing that can stop you!

Be Realistic!
Do not treat your business or goal as a get rich quick scheme. Remember, this isn't the lottery. It's going to take time to be successful. Don't give up because you didn't make $10,000 your first month. Stick to your plan and keep your eyes on the end result.

Be Persistent
Make a promise to yourself right now that you will not stop until you are successful. Just doing this alone guarantees your success because you never really fail as long as you are still working toward success.
Embrace the building stages of your business. Realize that you are going to get bumps and bruises along the way and use them as learning experiences to make you smarter, stronger and mentally tougher. Remember, unstoppable persistence guarantees success.

Be an Independent Thinker
Don't waste time worrying about what people think. Dedicate yourself, your time and your energy to your dream. Don't let what anyone else says or thinks discourage you. Remember, 95% of the population are not entrepreneurs. They have no desire to do anything other than work a job for a paycheck. Most of them will not let you persuade them to change their thinking, so why would you let them influence your business. You made the choice to follow your dreams so stand firm. When you are unsure of yourself, people sense it and don't take you seriously. If you let people know that you are 100% dedicated to what you are doing, they will respect you even if they don't agree with it. Think about it, why would you listen to the opinion of someone who has the same or less than you do when you are trying to move forward?

Be Consistent
Create a schedule of activities that you need to do daily and stick to it. Now, this schedule must be realistic. If you have a job, family or other responsibilities, your schedule must reflect that. If you work your business full time, make a full time schedule. You MUST dedicate yourself to following your schedule no matter what. If that means getting up early, staying up late or turning off the TV then that's what you have to do. Consistency combined with persistence cannot be stopped!

Be a Student of Personal Development
You should always be learning. Read as many motivational, inspirational and educational books as you can. Listen to them on audio in your car instead of music or news. Study people who have accomplished what you are trying to achieve so you can do what they did to succeed. The more you educate yourself, the less time you spend re-inventing the wheel. If there is something you want to do, there is a good chance that someone has already done it and written a book about it. A good practice you can add to your daily schedule for personal development is writing affirmations. This is where you write a list of things that you want as if they are already true. For example, "I am thankful that I have become the top income earner in my company." Affirmations trick your subconscious mind into making you do things that move you toward your goals. Personal development not only educates you, but it puts you in the proper mindset to stay focused, motivated and positive while building your business.
