Are You Productive Or Are You Busy?
One of the greatest challenges in going from a employee to an entrepreneur is how you spend your time. In free enterprise you get paid based on your results. When you’re trading time for money you can surf the web, have side conversations, email around the funny joke to your co-workers and still get paid for it. However, as an entrepreneur where you get paid based on results it is extremely important to maximize your time and not waste it.
It’s easy for a home business owner to spend time being busy without actually being productive. You must spend at least 90% of your time on income producing activities. As an online network marketer income producing activities consist of two things; Driving traffic and talking on the phone. Everything else is non-income producing activities. Some examples of non income producing activities are; checking email, building spreadsheets, organizing your desk and other activities that put no money in your pocket.
It’s easy to think you’re working on your business when in actuality you are simply being busy. Being busy is not being effective. As home business owners our time is our most valuable asset. Only we can say what an hour of our time is worth. Some entrepreneurs give their time away because they are use to the employee mentality where they get paid either way.
That is why it is absolutely vital that when we speak with prospects they are actually serious and ready to buy. You can waste an entire day speaking to “tire kickers” and “get rich quick losers.” You may feel that your day was productive because you spoke to so many people but in actuality you were busy and since you made no sales you were in fact not productive.
Here are a few things you can do to maximize your time..
1.) Work in 50 minute intervals and give yourself a 10 minute break at the end. During this time you should focus on one task or activity. Multi tasking is ineffective and actually lowers your IQ.
2.) Use a stopwatch during these 50 minute periods. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you set a goal to get it done in a specific amount of time.
3.) Use a funded proposal system like ours to pre-qualify people who are serious about building a business.
4.) Get your most important activities out of the way early in the day. Before you check your email or answer the phone.
5.) Check your email 2 times per day maximum. And never check your email before noon. Nothing is that important that it cant wait until 12:00.
