How many people on this planet dreamed of sitting in traffic for hours or riding an underground train to work everyday only to sit in a cubicle they can't stand, with people they were forced to become friends with based on proximity? To quote a wise man, "Shared joys make a friend, not shared sufferings" (Nietzsche). And quite frankly, with the exception of the extremely fortunate few who get to work on what they are passionate about (I would reserve that list to athletes, artists, etc. - and even they deal with the problems that come with fame) work is likely the biggest cause of suffering for all individuals.

Sure, there are one off, tragic events, but I want to leave those out of the picture. The question becomes, why do we do this to ourselves? The easy answer is responsibility. Everyone needs a place to sleep, eat, and blow off some steam everyone now and again, and people want to take care of their loved ones. However, I am going to propose to you that the responsible acts that you are engaging in are the exact opposite of what you should be doing. Now, I am not saying that you should go out and quite your job any time soon, but at least do yourself the favor of considering some other options. The idea is to create some passive income through a home based business opportunity that will help you live your life to the fullest.

Think of the last time you bought a lottery ticket. Remember the feeling as you joke about with your friends about what you will do when winning? That projection to the moment is a very strong feeling. It is the feeling of freedom. There is nothing like it. Think of the endless possibilities with no boss to report to, clock to punch, or financial concerns. Unfortunately, the lottery is not your best retirement plan, but then again working 5 days a week is probably not either (why give up today if you don't have to). This is going to be the beginning of a series that discusses some of the concerns that people may have when starting their home based business idea - I am going to use this term to include small business as well because the 2 are virtually identical. The topics that I am going to cover are: time, expense, motivation, support, and training.

TIME MANAGEMENT

This is the single most important thing when you are starting your home based business opportunity. See, having too much free time can often time be just as difficult as having too little. I think back to my days on Wall Street, where efficiency and effectiveness was measured in seconds, and can say that the days where I was "busier" I was quicker and more accurate. On the flip side, with no extra time you cannot take on more tasks. Actually, that is a complete lie and I think one of the biggest reasons that people don't go into business for themselves.

Either they have tried and managed their time ineffectively, or simply do not try for fear of limiting the small amounts of free time they do have. This is where thinking needs to be changed. Of course there will be more time involved in starting something new, but making other aspects of your life more efficient will allow for more time to pursue a legitimate home business. How do I do that? 2 answers: outsourcing and automation. The beauty of the Internet is that it is open 24-7, so once you produce content it is there forever for people to see = automation. It is obviously much more detailed than that and there is not enough space to cover it all here, but you get the picture... leverage your efforts.

CHALLENGE

I challenge you to look at your daily life and see if there are not things that you can eliminate to allow yourself an extra 5-10 hours a week to start with your home business opportunity. Just a couple of examples to get you going: TV and your commute. The average American watches 4-5 hours of TV everyday depending on what research you look at. Cut that out of your life and focus that energy on training and educating yourself to make a residual income.
