Don't Put Off Procastination
This article was posted about a year ago by Kathy Timbray. When I came across it , I felt it should be reposted. So I would like to give Kathy here due.
I feel that this nasty little bug called "Procrastination" is fairly common here in Internet Marketing Land. It turns out that I had received an email from a very down-to-earth publisher in the self-help industry who admitted to me that he had procrastinated about getting back to me on a specific topic, and it occurred to me that I've procrastinated on occasion myself! We can all laugh at the old jokes, "Seize the day tomorrow," or "Never put off today that which you can put off tomorrow."
But the truth is, procrastination is the enemy to your home business or internet marketing success. Frankly, it has been my own personal demon, and I am determined to oust it! I am guessing that the folks here at Better Networker would agree that this is something we should be on guard against! Because, realistically, if we are to achieve success, we must find and apply strategies for overcoming procrastination.
What is it they say? "The best thing about working for yourself is that you have no one telling you what to do." And what's the worst thing about working for yourself? "The worst thing about working for yourself is that you have no one telling you what to do!"
So... Here is my idea that I hope will help you improve your odds of entrepreneurial success - whether you are in a traditional home business or you are seeking internet marketing success. The technique is simple. Really! It is! I have done it myself, and it works.
The next time you feel like you are procrastinating or otherwise not moving forward in your home business or internet marketing strategies, take out a few pieces of paper, and a file folder. Label the file folder "Procrastination Dissolvers."
At the top of the paper, write the heading: "Brainstorming Procrastination Dissolvers." Now, brainstorm and write a list of as many activities you can think of that, while not at the top of your priority list of things to do to promote your home business or internet marketing venture, will still - in some way - be considered progress or forward movement towards your goals. Here are some examples:
· Read and comment on blogs related to my home business (remember to avoid comment spam!)
· Read and comment on articles related to my internet marketing strategies
· Investigate new ways to advertise
· Review different marketing strategies for my product
· Find and list new keywords
· Read or listen to a motivational book or audio
· Find and add new related blogs to "Favorites."
You get the idea.
Now, take another sheet of paper and label it "Procrastination Dissolved!" This sheet should have 4 columns. The first column can be the "Date," followed by "Time Spent," followed by "Activity Description," and finally "Results."
Store these sheets, along with some blank paper for future work. The next time you feel stuck , are procrastinating, or just need to shake up your routine, take out this file, and choose one of the activities you have listed.
Then, work on that activity. Set a timer and when the timer goes off you are done.
Finally, record what you did on the "Procrastination Dissolved" page, when you did it, how much time you spent on it, and any results you may have noticed upon completion.
The result of any given activity may be as simple as, "Got a great idea for an ad - Have written it down.".
Overcoming procrastination may not always be easy, but it really is critical to your home business or internet marketing success. Hopefully this little exercise was helpful to you! We all hit a wall sometimes. Don't be afraid to ask your Mentor for Help. The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked.
Thank you Kathy for a Great Idea.

Hey Girl
Procrastination is never an option for leaders.............Leaders move through brick walls not allowing anything to interfere with their aspirations and vision for their lives...................

You Got It!
Just taking the action to pull out that folder and paper are the triggers. Any little action helps get you going again. Another thing is to pick up the list of people you have not followed up with for a while. But being that I need my best energy for phone calls, I always consider that list first, and if not up to that (a bit too beat up from the day), then go to the folder, then reading and learning might be the next best thing!
Thanks for the great post!
Procrastination Kills Dreams
I'm glad I read this... It reminds me of myself when I first began my career as a marketer. Taking action and holding yourself accountable is what it's gonna take to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. Thanks for the repost and the great reminder.
It can stop you dead in your tracks!
Thanks Zelphina,
What a timely post! We all need to keep this pro out of our lives!

Procrastination is the Enemy
Why put it off today when you can put it off tomorrow.
Great topic!
Procrastination is something I would guess most of us humans are pretty good at. But if we're determined to succeed as our own "boss" we must find ways to "keep moving" even on days we don't really feel like it.
One thing that works for me when I feel myself procrastinating because a project is dauntingly large (or complex): Evaluate the project and write an outline of the necessary steps to completion. Then break the project into logical segments so that each piece can be completed in one working day or less. Works for me :-D
May Procrastination Fall To The Ground Powerless,Never To Return
We need to fight with everything in us. Our "Why" is worth the battle. The more we obsess on our dream the more there is nothing that can stop us! I have found that personal development and spending consistent time with my mastermind group keeps me bulletproof against procrastination. Excellent article!
