Ever Wonder Why We Network Marketers Have Two Ears And One Mouth?
I am amazed when I talk to or observe network marketers. It is as though we were given two mouths and only one ear. The constant chatter is positively deafening.
Bear in mind this is listening to colleagues in the mlm field. Imagine what it must be like to prospects and new recruits who cannot get a word in because their future sponsor is too busy talking at them than listening to them.
Think of what is missed by not listening. You completely miss hearing about the prospect’s “why” for wanting to be involved with a business, yes, perhaps your business. Your mind must be racing making sure you covered all the trigger points of your business presentation. Spend time listening to a prospect’s “dweams”, I don’t think so.
Yet is that not the reason for the prospect getting this far in the recruitment ritual? Do they not want to dream about getting out of their present financial situation? Do they want to make enough side income to put aside for a new car? New home? College education for their kids?
I attended a group presentation given by one of my team members. A question was raised by a prospect attending the meeting. Something along the lines of how quickly can money be made. My team member responded that he would cover that later in the meeting. Long story short, that prospect left the meeting that night without having his question even remotely responded to and he never got in.
(The presenter was too busy making sure that he covered all bases of the business presentation that he was not listening to this person. Even a vague response of “I would want you to make money quickly but ultimately how fast you make money in this business depends on you…” Now, that would have satisfied the prospect to the degree that his question was listened to and given a response that specifically addressed his question.)
Other times, our minds are spinning wondering how to respond to questions which probably will never be asked. “God, I hope they don’t ask me about that pyramid thing.” “Why is that person raising her hand, maybe if I ignore her she’ll eventually put her hand down.” “Please don’t ask me about your cousin’s sister-in-law who lives five states away having a basement full of soap.”
Instead of listening to our prospects and team members, we are more impressed with hearing our voice pontificate about the grand network marketing strategy which has been personally revealed to you and a couple of others by some guru in our field. However, if you listen to the top network marketers, they would have trained you to listen twice as much as you talk.
The good Lord designed we humans – like most living creatures - with two ears and one mouth. Obviously He must have had we network marketers in mind.
