How to Get Yourself Out of the Dumpster and Onto the Path of Success

Read More: Discipline

I recently received a question from someone on Facebook about…

“How am I able to stay so positive and focused on what I want?”

You know, this isn’t the first time I got this, and it made me wonder how many other people out there would like to learn what it takes to be this way.

As growing up as a child we are all faced with challenges.

Some of those challenges we think we will never overcome like how you blew it with this one girl/guy and how you can never face them again.

But what we learn is, if we can face those challenges head-on despite our temporary feelings of unworthiness, we actually will see it’s nothing more than a speed bump in the process of persevering.

“Persevering is the ability to continue on in spite of discouragement.”

This is what leaders have been doing for years, so why shouldn't you.

Let me ask you this, within network marketing, are you letting discouraging behaviors interfere with your success?

If so, you’re not alone.

There is an old saying, “Take it with a grain of salt.”

We can use this trusty old saying to help us persevere.

Basically when you find yourself down in the dumpster because of how you failed to sign up a prospect, don’t let it beat you up.

Instead, take it with a grain of salt and do what other leaders like us do.

We accept it for what is.

Sure, at first that may not be easy. However, once you’re cooled off and you can begin to recognize it, consider what just happened was for a reason.

Don’t worry about what the reason is, it’s only going to make you sick. Just say to yourself…

“This person wasn’t good enough to be a part of my team.”

Now you will get to a point where you get good at this.

What About People Who Are in Your Business Who Aren’t?

I like to think of this way. And that is, you have two options:

1. Sit on them and try to turn that lump of coal into a diamond.

2. Just let ‘em go.

Which one you choose is your choice.

One will demonstrate your strength in persevering while the other will focus on your weakness.

Do you focus on your strengths or weaknesses?

The network marketing arena is really different then the typical Corporate America job.

It requires you to focus on your strengths and where you have weaknesses, you find others who are good at those to offset it.

This is how you can persevere in your network marketing business or in life in general.

Yes it’s different and challenging, but it's also very rewarding. If you’re anything like me, you’re in it for the reward.

The reward of the impact you make on others or the nice chunk of change you get to make each month.

As the leader of the pack, are you persevering in your network marketing team?

What nifty tips can you share with us to help others build up their perseverance?

Nice Job!

It is important when building a business not to focus on your weaknesses. It will hold you back and slow you down. I like to say run hard with your strength and the weaknesses will get polish.

Absolutely

That's right Josh. There will always be someone to help with the weaknesses and if not, then that's the next person to be added to the team.

Hey Jerome, you hit the nail on the head, Perseverance is king!

What Weaknesses

I believe in the mindset that what some would consider weaknesses, are just strengths in training. Once we are fully implementing out major strengths, we can focus on our strengths in training one at a time.

Re "Nice Job"

What if one of your weaknesses is truly holding you back, like follow-up?

If you do not address your weaknesses, or better yet identify critical ones that are impeding your business, you may not get anywhere.

Peter Fuller — Thu, 05/06/2010 - 10:12pm

Ah yes...

Thanks everyone...

@Peter, The best way to address a weakness is by working with someone who is really good in that area in order to abolish it. This way, this weakness now becomes a new learned skill.

Great point, it does need to be identified. It's just that there is no emphasis on what they are not good at.

If you want it bad enough...

I think for a lot of people, they just don't want it bad enough.

They aren't obsessed with success in Network Marketing... but they're obsessed with a million other little things... like TV, Wii, or PS3.

Nothing wrong with that... but you get what you wish for.

Jason Better — Fri, 05/07/2010 - 7:24am

Very true...

You're soooo right JB. I see others obsessed with the things that just don't make sense to me, and they probably feel the same way for my passion as a business entrepreneur.

I guess whatever their flavor is, it's their choice.

You are a true inspiration!

Reading your articles always inspires me. You've got such a positive attitude.

Challenges are part of the game in this business. And we have always two choices on how to handle them. It's up to us how we do it.

I love what Chris said above ... "weaknesses are just strength in training". That's a very positive way of looking at it.
