“I’m Not Babysitting Your French Fries!” – Take Responsibility for Running Your Own Business
My daughter decided to make herself a hamburger for dinner the other night. She likes to put french fries on top of her burger, so she was cooking fries too.
She doesn’t like anyone eating her food, especially if she’s cooking it for herself. And almost every time she cooks fries, a “discussion” happens between her and my son—usually about him asking her to fix him some and she not wanting to.
So she asked me to let her know if anyone started to eat her fries, which were cooking, because she had to go do something. I was in the middle of listening to a webinar and taking notes.
Now I must tell you that one of the reasons I retired from the Air Force is that I wanted to be available for my children. But my daughter thinks that I’m at her beck and call ALL THE TIME.
I had had a very busy day which was full of interruptions already, so I was a “little bit” annoyed when she asked me to watch her fries. I replied, probably with a look of disgust, with “Makaila, I’m NOT babysitting your french fries.” You should have seen the look on her face. She was speechless, and Makaila loves to talk…too much.
So my question for you is, are you taking responsibility for running your business or…are your asking someone to babysit your business?
Running Your Own Business
Now don’t get me wrong. There are times when we need help. But sometimes we use our request for help as an excuse to not finish what we started. And then when things don’t work out, we claim we didn’t get any help and blame someone else.
My point is that, ultimately, your business is your business, not anyone else’s. People are available to help, but you have to do the actual work. After all, who else would have the best interest of your business in mind? It’s not your up line (they have an interest, but have more in thier own). It’s not your down line. It’s not your support system. It’s not anything or anyone else. Only YOU.
You have the sole responsibility for the success of your business.
So figure out who’s running your business.
By the way, Makaila got my point and left. And there were no “discussions” coming from the kitchen either.
