Mike Dillard Almost Destroyed My Business... And He Doesn’t Even Know it!
First, let me tell you right off that I love Mike Dillard. The truth is I’ve purchased virtually every one of his courses and trainings. In fact, it was Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring course that first got me hooked on network marketing training and attraction marketing. It was also the first network marketing course I ever bought.
Here’s another truth -- Mike Dillard has become one of my mentors, even though we’ve never had a lengthy conversation.
So how can i say that Mike almost destroyed my business? That’s easy.
I've heard it said that everyone is addicted to something. For me, its education. My parents drilled into me very early on the importance of education, and it’s been ingrained in me ever since. Bachelor’s degree, Masters, Ph.D.... I just kept going and going. And its no different in my new career as an Internet Marketer.
"Hi, my name is Bob, and I’m an education and training addict."
And Mike DIllard was my primary supplier. He got me started with Magnetic Sponsoring, then Building on a Budget. It wasn’t enough. I needed more -- Copywriters Guild, MLM Traffic Formula (1 and 2), PPC Domination. And now it’s WWN. I just can’t stop myself. I am compelled to learn everything and anything I can about Network and Internet Marketing.
I want to be just like Mike.
So what’s the problem?
Somewhere along the way, I broke one of Mike’s cardinal rules. It happened without me hardly noticing. It was a colossal mistake that almost destroyed my business before it even got started....
I neglected to IMPLEMENT what I learned.
While it’s true that learning is never a bad thing and education will propel you in all aspects of your life, too much training and not enough action can spell disaster. I got hooked into this vicious circle of taking network marketing training course after training course. I would attend all the webinars, do all the assignments and ask the right questions.
I was a model student and I had an impressive list of skills, but I was also dead broke.
It’s true, I am highly trained in various aspects of network and Internet marketing, including social media marketing, paid advertising, article marketing and list building. These skills have served me well in building my business, but only after I learned from this one crucial mistake.
I was learning without implementing.
There comes a time when training won’t move your business forward any further.
You must take action and implement what you’ve learned. Learning about pay-per-click marketing does you no good unless you take what you’ve learned, set up some campaigns and placed some ads. Becoming proficient in article writing is great, but won’t put a nickel in your pocket unless you role up your sleeves and write the articles that builds your list of prospects.
It all comes down to this:
Knowledge without action is simply a whole bunch of stuff stuck in your brain.

Excellent message
And so true ! How many of us do that? Spend far more time learning or reading up on something without actually following through. I know I did it !
Thanks,

RE:
Glad to see you're on the road to recovery, (and profits!) :)

Education Junkie
Hi Bob,
I guess I followed in your footsteps a little since you are my sponsor. I get so caught up in training by the end of the night my eyeballs are red, tired and I have to keep them up with toothpicks. My wife has to beat me to get me to come to bed ( whoops that didn't sound right) Well I think you get the idea.
Example: It's 11:00 EST I left for my J.O.B. at 7:30 a.m got off at 9:00 and I still have 2 hours of implementing and study to go.
But I love this stuff.

Glad you woke up from the coma in time to implement and proceed to live and enjoy your life and the passions you embrace!
Re:
@Mike -- recovering yes, but will never stop learning!
@ Eileen -- wide awake, Eileen, and ready to implement!
@Craig -- yes, Craig I know we are cut from the same cloth. Keep up the great work and the results will follow.
@ Joyce - thanks for the great comment!
Glad I'm Not the Only One!
It is so hard to come off of the learning addiction and put it all to work but boy it pays off when you do! Sharpen the axe yes, but don't forget swing it!
Hail to the Doc!
You're not alone on this matter. It has happened to practically every entrepreneur sometime or another. We wouldn't be human if we didn't take the time to learn our craft. Once I've learn to compartmentalize my daily actions, it has been smooth sailing ever since. Glad to see you've sobered up too and taking action! Great post!!!
If there were an EAA, I would join you!
If there were an education addict anonymous, I would join you. I had the same problem for about the first 2 years of my business. I found my way out, I am glad you did too! Thank you for sharing this article, I think there are several people who keep educating themselves so much that they have no time for their business. Education is VERY important but you also have to put it into practice.
Hi my name is Carrie and I'm an education addict
Hey Bob,
Great article, I can definitely empathize. I just finished my MBA thinking it was what I really needed to be successful in business and I even quit my job to go to school full time because I wanted to get as much out of it as possible!
In the early stages of my network marketing career I found myself acting as if I was still in the classroom, all learning without any real implementation! It gnawed at me for awhile until I started actually doing all the things I learned...what a world of difference.
Glad to hear you woke up too! Thanks for the reminder :)
Repeat After Me....
Great comments everyone.
Now repeat after me...
Learn --- ACT--- Learn --- ACT --- Learn --- ACT!!!!
Getting ready, to get started.
I think this also explains why so many people continue to get ready to get started. With the wealth of information out there you could literally read and study your way completely out of business. You definitely need to take that information and take action. Great advice Bob!
