The Best Way to Master Skills - A Map to Success
You want to master a new skill? Well stick with me here and let me show you what I do, trust me, it works. After you read this, ask any guru if they used this method, and if it worked for them.
To fully appreciate this though, we need to take a look at maps.
Let’s say you have a map for… Paris.
A place I haven’t been to YET, but will visit one day.
Okay, so you have this map of Paris. It’s a great map, probably the best. It lays out everything in perfect detail. Every street, side street, alleyway. It perfectly pinpoints the places of interest.
The map shows you exactly where all the best places to eat are. It even has an index that points out the little known secrets, great places to go that most tours don’t include.
This map is amazing! What do you want to see in Paris? Well this map will show you exactly how to get there! Perfect.
Now let me ask you a question. Who’s hands will this map be most effective in? 1.) The person sitting on the couch watching the latest episode of “Lost” 2:) The person about to get on a plane to Paris or 3.) The person in the middle of this well known city?
If you’re not going to Paris, the map won’t do you much good. If you are like me, and want to visit Paris, but haven’t got the tickets or even the date set yet, that map wouldn’t do much good either.
As a matter of fact, the map won’t really be useful at all till I’m actually IN Paris, ready to GO. The map will do me the most good while I’m there, on the streets, and actively going to the places on the map.
Now think about all that you’ve learned about Network Marketing so far, since the day you started. Think of all the training material you’ve got. All the training you’ve been through. Whether it’s just the free boot camp offered by Mike Dillard, or whether you’ve purchased all sorts of stuff from several places.
It doesn’t matter if you haven’t applied it.
What if you got your perfect map of Paris, bought the plane ticket to Paris, and even went so far as to get on the plane. If you never pull that map out of your bag, and if you stay in your hotel and watch some TV, just like you do at home… where will you be? What good will the map be to you?
The training you go through, the materials you acquire, books, videos, audios, presentations, events you attend…. they will do you absolutely no good, profit you not a single cent, if you don’t DO something with them. If you don’t follow the teaching, if you don’t follow the advice, if you don’t DO anything with them it’s all pointless. They will do you no good.
Let me ask you something. What are you waiting for?
Are you waiting till you know more?
Till you know everything?
Get used to this fact. You will never know everything, so if you’re waiting for that day, you'll be waiting a looooong time.
And guess what else. People forget things. I know that sounds obvious, but think about it.
We all know this, but consider for a minute: You learn things, but if you don’t put in action the things you’ve just learned, and then you learn something else, you will forget some of what you heard before.
The very best way to get what you’re learning to stick, and to get good at it, is to DO it. The more you apply it, the better you’ll get at it, and the better you’ll remember it.
Okay, so now you have it. The best way to master a new skill is to put it into action as soon as you learn it. Don’t wait till you learn more, just do it.
I actively do everything I learn, as I’m learning it. Sometimes it probably looks a bit raw and unpolished, but that’s okay. I’ll get better at it because I’m not done learning, and I’m certainly not done applying.
What do you think? Leave a comment and tell us what you’ve been waiting for, or if you have put that behind you,
what were some of the things that held you back for so long, and what finally pushed you to apply what you learned?
To Your Success,
Susanna Hess

Great Article Susanna!
No man can stand on top because he is put there and remember "Ignorance, on fire, is better than knowledge, on ice!"
Kudos to ya!
Time
Susanna you have said a lot of great things with much truth to them.
You asked what we each have been waiting for; and to be honest the biggest thing holding me back at the moment is...that "dirty" little four letter word...time.
I'm working on it and understand in order to have time I have to create the time to do it with or without all the changes in life swirling around.
I like the analogy of a map, that's good!
Thanks for the great post.
Ignorance on Fire
Hi Angie!
I absolutely love that phrase, ignorance on fire, it is so much more powerful than people give it credit for.
Thank you for the great comment and reminder!
All the best,
Susanna
24 hours in a day
Hi Rachel!
No kidding, time is of so much value that I really have to watch how I spend mine. I used to take it for granted, but more and more I find myself squeezing out every second and trying to make it all count each day.
Thank you for the comment! I always appreciate your input.
All the best,
Susanna
Map to success
Thanks Susanna for another quality post. How crucial it is to take action each and every day. i have found that the best cure for fear is action. It's something in the doing that drives that fear away. You are so right about not waiting till everything is perfect.
Drive the Fear Away
Thanks Peter!
You're right, it is critical. And what I notice is that when I stay busy, putting into action all that I'm learning, right away, I just don't have time to be afraid.
It's in those moments that I pause in my training, pause in putting it into action, and let my mind wander, that fear and doubt start to creep in.
What am I doing? Can I do this? Who am I fooling? I'm nobody important, I'm just ME...
Those are lies and the only way to get rid of them is to bring every thought into captivity, and control what I do and what I think about. Surround myself with the positive, and not leave room for the negative.
Staying busy, putting it all in motion, really helps keep that fear where it belongs, out of my head! lol
Thanks Peter for the comment. :)
