Three Things We Need to Prioritize Our Time
Some days there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day. We all have responsibilities, families, jobs and quite frankly life can seem like a whirlwind.
I'm sure you know the feelings and experience it. Some days I feel like I am not getting much accomplished. So many things demand my attention and sometimes the days seem to whiz right by.
We might say things like:
"I don't have time."
"There aren't enough hours in the day."
"I have so many loose unfinished projects."
"My to do list is getting pushed in to the next day."
We can't wish for more hours in the day. That would be nice but it is not going to happen.
We can't allow ourselves to get in a frustrated frenzy over how how much time we feel we don't have. That's a waste of time. Fretting over it will accomplish nothing.
What can we do?
We can change how we think about time.
The first thing to recognize is, what we tell ourselves during the day. Things like:
"I don't have enough time for that."
"I can't seem to get anything done."
"There's not enough time to start that project."
"There are too many interruptions."
The second thing is to remember that most likely everything you've ever really needed to get done, did get done. You probably got the really important things accomplished. What about that term paper in school that you waited until the last minute to write. It got done, right? Your grade depended on it getting finished. That article you meant to write, eventually got written. You found the time to make that follow up call after all. Trust that you actually do have the time when you really need it to get the critical things done.
Thirdly, be sure you focus on the positive. Keep in mind the things you did do instead of making a list of all the things you wanted to do but didn't. With this attitude you are basically coming from an abundance mindset. Negative attitudes foster more lack and frustration. "I can't" and "I didn't" need to be replaced with "I did" or "I was able".
Lastly, realize that the problem really isn't Time. It's more like the problem lies in your priorities and the fact that you may be looking at everything as catastrophic. The answer isn't more hours in every day, but the answer is in controlling your to-do list and determining what is most important. I would bet that some of what is on your agenda can wait. It can probably wait an hour, a day, a week or possibly forever. Recognizing what really is important and what will be the desired results should be our motivation for doing things. Put your time there.
The key is in realizing that you must change what you are saying to yourself about time and how you determine what really is important for that moment, that day. If you feel there is an important thing that you need to accomplish, then tackle it first and keep telling yourself
"I have time!"
"If it's meant to be, I'll get it done."
"I trust that I will accomplish the most important things today."
I'll just bet that you will find that you will be astonished at what you actually get done! You'll find you probably won't feel the urgency to hurry. You can actually slow down, giving your project more thought and even find yourself enjoying it.
Because you convinced yourself that you do have what you need.......time.

avoiding the time bandit...

Great Statement Lynn.
Yes, re-evaluating how we manage our time to be the most useful can really be the challenge. By putting the most important things first...the things that can't wait til tomorrow, will help us to manage the more important things better, and disregard time waister's.

Thanks for the reminder
This article just makes sense, and it is very true. Sometimes we feel time is againest us, but like you said it is our priorities and our thinking.
I was soooo there. Now
I was soooo there. Now instead I say "I chose not to make that an issue for today", thereby giving myself permission "Not To Sweat The Small Stuff" Thanks Lynn
It's a Daily Challenge!
Thanks Lynn! You are so so right, this is a subject that I struggle with on a daily basis, but I HAVE to not only realize there won't be more time in the day, but to keep giving myself credit for the things I DO accomplish, and stay positive! It is just like you said "the answer is in controlling your to-do list and determining what is most important." and the the most important things get done.
Thanks for the great reminder!

We can get things done, if we are aware of our thoughts.
Another brillant article Lynn. We all wish there were more than 24 hours in a day, but there isn't. HOW WE THINK about the things we need to get done is SO important. We have to stay positive, tomorrow will come soon enough. Prioritize what needs to be done is also essential. I think what is important is that you have to have a plan to begin with and write down your plan, not just a list. If it were a business and you were starting out, you would have to have some type of written plan of your new, business right? Importantly, you have to keep a positive attitude, commit, be persistent and focus on what you are doing. Having the slight edge approach and KEEP A POSITIVE attitude is what helps keep me persistent. Personal growth is an essential daily ritual, you have to grow within your mind and withing yourself. Great Value Lynn
It's easy to forget...
...that how we think of TIME can transform it from an "enemy" to a "friend." For me, "The key is in realizing that you must change what you are saying to yourself about time and how you determine what really is important for that moment, that day," summarizes your wonderful article for me. What an awesome idea: Expand your time by seeing it in abundance. Thank you, Lynn!
Prioritize!
Thanks Lynn.
Everyday I start with my "To Do" list, prioritized and ready to go.
I think of...
pareto -> 80 percent are done for nothing
and 20 percent produce the money, success or what ever!
So I focus on the 20 % as often as possible.
Best regards
Volker
