Treating Constipation

When constipation strikes, it can be uncomfortable and make you feel less-than-great. Thankfully, treating the problem is not as hard as it may seem. There are several ways to beat this very common digestive ailment.
Sea Salt Water Cleanse
The sea part is important here, because table salt lacks magnesium and other balancing minerals. The best time to do the cleanse is first thing in the morning, before eating anything. Drink at least half a liter of somewhat-salty warm water (various formulations are online) and wait for results. When the results occur, you will be completely cleaned out. However, if the liter does not do the trick, continue to drink more and results should come.
Magnesium
Various forms of magnesium are available, but they all draw water into the colon. This causes dry, compacted fecal matter to soften and expand and move along. The combination of magnesium and warm water is very effective, and may be combined with a sea salt water cleanse for greater effects.
Olive Oil
This is a very gentle, effective natural laxative. A few swigs or spoonfuls should be taken with warm water and lemon juice for best results.
Coffee
Coffee has a definite laxative effect that cannot be attributed solely to its caffeine content. Many people find that a cup of coffee jump-starts their digestive system in the morning, and it can be a great stimulant laxative that goes well with other natural constipation cures.
Laxatives
Many of the laxative products on the market cause stools to soak up water, activating movement of the bowels naturally. Others, such as those made from senna, directly stimulate the bowel contractions, speeding fecal matter out whether it's soft or not. For this reason, it's important to drink plenty of water when using them. These laxatives should only be used after bulk-forming laxatives such as Metamucil fail to clear things up.
Enema
An enema involves filling the rectum with water, usually producing a forceful bowel movement very soon after administration. Although this can take care of anything backed up in the bowels, it's limited in terms of the depth of its effectiveness.
Colonic Irrigation
This therapy is the most thorough method of eliminating backed up waste. It involves the passage of warm water into the bowel through a tube that takes waste back out as well. With the use of colonic irrigation Melbourne residents can treat problems with constipation naturally and thoroughly.
