Why You Must Not Sleep

We all have areas that we are the best at. Because of our expertise; enemies will rise up against us. Such enemies may not be able to attack us openly but will constantly be looking for opportunities to destroy us. We will guarantee our own destruction if we decide to sleep in a friend’s house knowing that he lives in the midst of our worst enemies.

Most people may not want to believe this thinking that they will be safe and can fight of such attacks. That will though be a costly mistake.

Take for example, some angels came to Sodom and Gomorrah. Throughout the day that they were moving about the town, nobody harassed them. In the night however, when they went to Lot’s house to sleep, the men of the town struck and wanted to rape them.

Now let us see how Jesus handled such situations with the Pharisees and the scribes who were determined to kill him. The Pharisees and scribes wanted to kill Jesus but where afraid of the crowd revolting. They secretly sort for a way to capture him and kill him.

Jesus knew that his time to die had not come. He also realised that while on earth, despite his Godly powers, he was still totally human and could thus be killed. He therefore tried as much as he could to avoid Jerusalem the strong hold of his enemies.

There were times, though that he had to preach in temple in Jerusalem. He will go there in the morning, preach to the people and attack the Pharisees but once it was evening, when the people returned to their houses, he quietly left Jerusalem and went to Mount Olive to sleep.

This seems rather odd because the mountain would be very uncomfortable for him to sleep on. He also had friends like Nicodemus in whose house he could sleep in Jerusalem. Jesus knew however the secret to staying alive. He knew that it was better to be uncomfortable and out of reach of your enemies than to be comfortable and be within striking distance of your worst enemies especially when you are most vulnerable.

Jesus was never captured until the night he stayed in a garden in Jerusalem. There, his flanks were exposed. It was very easy then for the scribes to capture him without any fight from the crowd who had got to their houses.

So, always go for safety first before comfort. If you are not sure of your environment despite the fact that is looks cozy and enticing, seek for a safe place first even if it’s uncomfortable.

Imagine what will happen to a NATO soldier in Afghanistan who decides to sleep outside a barrack but in the mansion of one of his friends who lives on the outskirt of town. And whose house the Taliban knows he visits in the day time.

This principle applies not only to your daily life but to your assets too. Always seek the safety of the assets you have first before trying to speculate with it. Speculating always looks enticing and easy but it has destroyed most of its practitioners. Safety first guarantees the asset owner a secure future before seeking for returns for him.

 A living dog is better than a dead Lion.
