Your Own Integrity is Summed Up in your Policies & Procedures
I am sure by now you are tired of me bringing up alllll the time to read your P&P’s. But this is something that is so important that it needs repeating.
I was in Texas this weekend to celebrate the birthdays of my 3 grandchildren. During the party a family member of my son-in-law told me he too was in Network Marketing. As we were discussing the beauty and excitement of this industry we got on the subject of the P&P’s ( big surprise ) He is completely satisfied with the fact that his company can terminate him at any time without cause. The fact that everything he has worked for in this company can be wiped out simply with a written letter, does not bother him. He simply loves what he does and it brings joy to his life. However, sadly he has terminal Cancer and his outlook is he will enjoy the time he has doing what he likes, P&P‘s be damned. I respect him for that and he only pushes product anyway , so no downline to worry about.
However, we can’t all live our lives that way. Your Policies & Procedures are a legal contract. Never think that just because you play golf three days a week with the cousin of the best friend of the owner of the pet grooming place that the sister of someone in corporate takes their Chihuahua to will not use the P&P’s against you….THINK AGAIN.
It is required to get an education for most well paying jobs. And for those who seek to make more than working at McDonalds, are willing to get that education.
Network Marketing is no different. Getting educated will keep you from getting screwed !! Once you’re in NM your education does not end…..Ain’t that Great !! We get to learn self development.. What other job asks you to get to know yourself? To learn about other people and to just grow as a person. And we actually ENJOY IT !! We get to help more people than we would flippin burgers and at the same time we get paid very well. Can’t think of another job that does that. Or at least that would suit me anyway.
I have listed a few pointers for what to look for in your Policies & Procedures. And keep in mind that your P&P’s and “Terms & Conditions” are two different things.
• "Policies & Procedures" and "Terms & Conditions";
both are part of your Legal Contract.
• Look for the word "Ongoing".
• Look for policies that strike you as "Unreasonable". Like "Termination, with or without cause".
• Ask yourself "Does this contract protect me or the company?" "Is it clear which way it leans?"
• Does the company charge you for training or a company web site?
• Does the company charge you for each paycheck they send you?
• Rules of Thumb:
• The longer the contract, the greater the possibility that the policies important to you
are being hidden in "Legalese"!
• If it's a "Cash Only" business...It's a Scam!
• If you can buy a position at the top...It's a Scam!
• If you are offered a "Special Deal"...the playing field isn't level for all.
• If the products are sold on eBay at a greatly reduced price...Buy there instead.
• If a company is publicly traded, Financial Decisions Will be made in Favor of the
Stockholders at the Expense of the Distributors.
• Check these two websites: www.MLMwatchdog.com and www.MarketWaveInc.com.
* If you will think of your company as a marriage, and if there is anything in your contracts that you would not agree to with your own spouse, then why would you agree to it with your company ? Some will not let you have an additional income source….This is what we call a WHAT THE HELL clause. So while reading and you come across anything that makes you say What the Hell? Then is a pretty good indicator that you should RUN !!
I am always more than happy to help you read and understand your Policies & Procedures. I am not an expert and do not claim to be. I do have some awesome people that can help in any area that I can not. I will not tell you if you are in a good or bad company, that you must figure out for yourself.
One last passing thought before I close. When you sponsor someone into your company, you are putting your own integrity on the line.
“ It’s not what we eat but what we digest that makes us strong, not what we gain but what we save that makes us rich, not what we read but what we remember that makes us learned; and not what we profess but what we practice that gives us integrity” by W. Clement Stone

Nice article Z!
It's what you know and don't share with others that reflects on your integrity. So once you learn, pass it on to others! To do otherwise is shameful...
Totally agree with you Zelphina
Everyone should know and understand the terms of whatever they are agreeing to which means reading their P&Ps.
However the owners of any company can do whatever they want at ANY TIME as they are the owners, plain and simple. Every company has a clause that they can change their P&Ps at their discretion at any time so there are no guarantees in ANY company no matter how long their P&Ps are.
Any and all business owners have the choice of staying open later, closing earlier, discontinuing or adding products, changing suppliers, hiring and firing. It's the nature of being a business owner. We as paid sales reps have to flow with the changes someone else has decided to make. It's the nature of MLM.
That's why, I believe, so many of the highest income earners will tell you never to leave all your eggs in one basket (which is owned by someone else). Diversify and/or monetize and nobody will be left with zero income on the day the MLM owners decide to change the rules.
To your success,

Awesome Article Zelphina
You are telling a Story! And if a Company makes P and P to protect them and not you red flag. YOu are toast I always like it when they say they can sue you but you can not sue them. Termination is not a something anyone should take lightly if you are a serious business builder. If this is Hobby then Hobby away!

Smart advice!
It's imperative to do your homework before joining any company, the same as we study about cars, couches, colleges and stuff like that before choosing. Smart advice, thanks for posting. Many are totally unaware and go into a new opportunity blindly and then get burned.
Thanks Joyce
However, what you were missing, and maybe I did not state it clear enough, is that a bad company can be like a bad marriage. If you enjoy being disrespected by your company and/or your spouse, then maybe you are in the right place. But a self-respecting person knows their self worth and will not put up with being told they are responsible for the actions of others or they will suffer the consequences. And as for changing them at any given time...the purpose for that is fairly obvious. Call me crazy, but just a thought.
Policies and Procedures must change with Laws
The reason companies state that they can change their policies at their discretion is so that if laws change, they must change their P & P's to reflect the the new law. What should be a red flag is when companies change their P & P's solely to further protect themselves.
To True
I think we should read the p&p and go with your gut feeling as in the end we will live and die buy our choices .After all we learn by our mistakes and hopfully be able to let others know as you are so they can avoid them as well.Good article.
Great Information Zelphina !
We need to know our policies and procedures in our MLM company, if not it is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute, as I have done many many times in the past, the longer the p&p pages are the more likely they are to hang you out to dry some way some how.
Always Educating!!! Awesome!!!
Great article Zelphina, It is a hard pill to swallow when someone you love would rather live in the fantasy world... Keep loving on him and pray that his eyes will open!!!.... Again a great example of how our closes friends and family can be deceived... Keep leading and one day they will take a drink of truth...

Nice Value Zephina
Zephina, In this industry, knowledge is the key to success. You need to know and learn everything you can. I think people there is so much hype out there, people are not reading their P&Ps. So people read your P&P's, obtain knowledge and keep growing as Zephina says. Thanks for value Zephina.
Good Points Zelphina!
And although companies might change their P&Ps from time to time, it's the one which you clicked 'yes' on that binds their contract with you, which is why phrases such as 'termination without cause' should send up red flags. Whether it is one company or more than one that you are working, gotta watch out for that type of language in any terms and conditions!
