How to Embrace Online Marketing Overwhelm
As we all move further and further down the head spinning path of the internet evolution, more times than not you will reach the point of information overwhelm. As an online entrepreneur & coach of internet marketing my team mates and I are no strangers to these very same feelings. So I began thinking about the ways to help others gain advantages with how to embrace online marketing overwhelm. During that period of reflection four thoughts came to mind as being the most effective in my experience.
The first point is a question: Would you rather be overwhelmed or underwhelmed? The majority of people find that being underwhelmed is the greater burden of the two. Think about working a job where you do the same tasks over and over each day without reprieve. That feeling of boredom and lack of challenge is truly mind numbing for most people. This may lead people to feelings of depression, lower self worth and a negative outlook. Being overwhelmed however, proceeds growth. Learning new information and tasks brings on stress, but in the positive form of a challenge. Meeting these challenges causes the person to grow, become more valuable, inspired and maintains a positive outlook. Therefore, online marketing overwhelm should not be viewed as a negative.
Now that we can see overwhelm as a positive we must embrace it as such. This is more of a choice than anything else. You can decide to complain, fight against it, and go down in a negative burn out or you can accept, embrace, and work with the flow of what is coming whether you want it or not. I often tell those entering internet marketing and home business to ask themselves what is great about this as a positive reminder to embracing overwhelm.
Another great way to treat online marketing overwhelm is to develop a personal system that manages the information. For example, this can be scheduling a period of time once or twice a week where you spend learning a new internet marketing method or reading up on a new resource about leadership or whatever it is that requires your focused effort to learn. As you go through each day and come across new information that will help your efforts or grow your business set it aside for the scheduled time where you can focus your attention. By doing this your day to day operations won’t be cluttered with the massive amounts of information that can cause the feeling of overwhelm.
The last recommendation: unplug, disconnect, or escape. Take some time away each week and turn off the cell phone, text, email, and laptop. Allow time for a defrag session where you can digest the week and the information barrage. Now more than ever this has become a requirement for survival and a higher quality of life. Without removing yourself periodically and consistently overwhelm will have the advantage over you and your life.
