How To Keep YourSelf Sharp - Read Success Magazine!

Success Magazine is a time-honored resource for achievers looking to excel in every area of their lives. It was first published in 1891 by Orison Swett Marden (famous for the saying "A will finds a way"), with leadership and direction provided by the likes of Napoleon Hill, W. Clement Stone and Og Mandino. Its initial intention was to be a source of information for entrepreneurs. Outside of a brief hiatus between July 2007 and March 2008, Success magazine has continued to provide thoughtful articles and no-nonsense content on topics ranging from sales tips and mindset thinking to exercise and staying healthy.

In each issue you will learn the success strategies of people like Stephen Covey, John Maxwell, Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, Harvey Mackay and Robert Kiyosaki, to name a few. I've enjoyed reading how Serena Williams, Lance Armstrong and George Foreman honed their thinking to become the legendary athletes that they are. Also included in each issue is a free CD, because the people behind Success magazine know that listening is another important way to feed your mind and spirit. Listening effects another part of the brain than does the act of reading.

As human beings, we are surrounded by negative input. Consider the content of the majority of TV programming, news shows and newspapers. The next time you walk through a crowd of people, pay attention (briefly!) to the topics of conversation that are pretty standard fare:  full of criticism, condemning and complaining. Add to that the many family histories of negative programming:  so many of us have negative thinking ingrained so deeply within that we are not even aware of it.

Now if success is really a matter of mind, a matter of changing our thinking and our attitudes. . . do you think you can overcome the constant barrage of negativity with the repitition of a few trite sayings or famous aphorisms?  I don't think so.  And neither do successful people, which is why top earning CEO's read a minimum of 10 hours per week, or 4-5 books every single month. You cannot have a million dollar bank account on a 30 dollar library.

By reading Success magazine, you will

  • learn the strategies and philosophies of the successful people profiled
  • expand your blueprint of what's possible by seeing how other people take their ideas from dream-state to reality
  • learn how to lead and motivate yourself on a continuous, daily basis.  If you stop learning, you stop growing, and enthusiam wanes
  • keep yourself from slipping into what regular mindset columnist Mel Robbins calls "stinkin' thinkin' "
  • learn what successful people read, so you can expand your own library
  • get introduced to the power of audio, or renew your commitment to listening to empowering input on a daily basis
  • increase your value as a human being, and as a business person. If you haven't been reading or listening to quality material, material that motivates and instructs and inspires you, then you really don't have anything to say
  • uncover many relevant topics to explore and write about

We have a choice on what we focus on. We can't control what the media says, or what is imposed upon us at the mall or the coffee shop, but we certainly can be in control of what media we choose to engage. I challenge you to go on what Andrew Weil, MD calls a "news fast":  no news for 1 entire week. No TV, no newspapers, no radio. (Trust me, if you need to know something, someone will tell you, and probably more than you want to know). Spend the time instead at Success.com.  Do it every day, for 1 full week, and see if it doesn't make a big difference in your attitude. Do it for a month or more, and see if it doesn't make a difference in who you are and how you think.

Make a commitment, today, to Keep YourSelf Sharp!  Make Success magazine your entrepreneurial "trade journal".

Reading Opens Doors

Well stated Ellen. Reading is an important means of continuing our education process. It can be used as a form of entertainment or as a way to open new doors for our businesses.

Reading is Knowledge

Hi Ellen,
This is a wonderful article. Reading is so important, I can't imagine life without the knowledge gained through a book. Always, learning something new, new inspirations, and learning that we have no limits, as long as we can read and grow.

Your challenge to read Success Magazine is a great one and I for one will let you know how it goes.
