The Stupidest Thing I Nearly Did And What Saved Me From Myself!
It's not necessarily easy to talk openly about the really stupid things we do--at least it isn't easy for me. But this is too important not to share, because (as a good friend reminded me), I am not the only one who has gone down such a path. In fact, it would be selfish--and totally contrary to what I am going to share--NOT to share this.
First, the secret that saved me: It is the single biggest thing that all the wildly successful online entrepreneurs know and DO. Simply this: Be of value to others. Be generous. Share with abundance. Be a fearless and unreasonable GIVER.
Second--the stupidest thing: I nearly forgot all of the above.
Period.
Okay, that probably needs a little more explanation, for those who are trying to make a living on line and scratching their heads (like I did before I "got it!").
It took me a while to re-learn this (after starting to work online from home), which is really quite ironic. You see, for decades I was a leader and mentor in the nonprofit world, empowering those with low self-esteem because of lives filled with abuse and hurt to overcome limiting beliefs and behaviors, to take charge of their lives, their choices, and ultimately their future success.
In that context--the nonprofit, direct service world--it was second nature to me. I lived, breathed, and believed in what I was teaching and doing with every fiber of my being. As a result, people listened, followed and lives were transformed. I can't even tell you how many--lots--thousands. I had no "power over" these people and didn't seek to control them. Rather, I conveyed such a powerful belief in what I had to share about personal transformation and empowerment, that it emanated from me and that held people's attention.
Because of what I believed, and shared freely, I provided others a way to grab hold of and believe in the same thing--their OWN power, courage, and ability to turn their lives around. It worked and lives changed. It was "viral," (even before the Internet came into our lives and really changed the meaning of that word).
So how crazy is it, that when I finally made a life-shift from the nonprofit world, to the world of running a home-based online business, I nearly forgot all of that! Somehow, I had this weird (and totally misguided) notion that now I needed to turn into a whirling-selling-marketing-dervish, and be someone other than who I had been all those years.
I already held the key to success, but I had this major mental disconnect that kept me from simply continuing to use that very key in my new venture. HOW INCREDIBLY STUPID that was. Scary-stupid.
But I'm not sharing this now to berate myself--or anyone else who has had trouble bridging that same mental gap. No, I can actually laugh my butt off today and feel exuberantly happy. Why? Because once I SAW what was right in front of me all along ("Thank you , Captain Obvious!!"), everything changed. From that moment on, I was more free--and successful-- than I had ever been. And the best thing of all is that others around me started "getting it" too. Now they, too, are experiencing new levels of success and showing others how to do the same!
The key was to be myself; to offer and share freely, that which I already possessed. To "bloom where I was planted."
The key for you? Well, it is not, and I repeat NOT, to be ME; it is to be YOU. Should you follow me? Absolutely--I have a lot to share with you and I'm eager to do that. But, whoever you are, you already hold the key to your own success. YOU have something of value to share that will establish you as a leader. What you need to do is identify it and then start sharing it freely--generously, with no restraint, and with a full heart. Just watch how the world will change!
So that is my story of the stupidest thing I NEARLY did--I nearly forgot to simply be generous and share that which I already have in abundance.
This post is long enough now, so I will share more in future posts and videos about the exact steps I took--and that you can take too-- to turn any situation around and go from mildly successful to WILDLY successful.
I look forward to meeting you on your journey to success!
Be amazed and amazing today,
Thia
P.S. I really shouldn't sign off without sharing the number one game-changer that I have to credit with "waking me up" about all this. Successful people all around me had suggested it for a looong time but for some inexplicable reason (see above!), I didn't act on it. Geesh. I can only roll my eyes now when I think about all the time, money, and energy wasted by not tapping into this MUCH sooner. Live and learn... (Follow me, yes--but not down the Stupid-Path! )
