Baby Boomers and Retirement!

Read More: Leadership

First of all what are baby boomers?

One of the features of Boomers was that they tended to think of themselves as a special generation, very different from those that had come before them. Baby boomers are the generation that was born between 1946 and 1964.

In 2006 the oldest of the baby boomers turned Sixty. There are around 298 million now. Celebrities like, Cher, Donald Trump and Sylvester Stallone are all baby boomers.

Baby boomers have changed the way it use to be to grow old. Their healthier than their parents, better educated and living a lot longer. This longer life has given them a chance to reinvent themselves and accomplish anything they want to in life.

Even though some baby boomers have already retired, they continue to work. Working a part time job, an internet home business, or even helping train others in what their skill was before they went into retirement. Their life has become one of work, leisure and family.

Forbes magazine wrote that, baby boomers have identified themselves as “youth” and are not letting go. So boomers will find new careers and hobbies and volunteer. They are a big part of secular spiritualism, a growing rejection of materialism. People are embracing the notion that the American dream is measured in spiritual, not material, fulfillment.

A report also states that 60% of baby boomers are now interested in the internet. They are all on social media sites creating content on blogs, in videos, on pod casts, and different forums. They are not as active as the younger generation yet, but because of retirement more and more are becoming very active.

Baby boomers make up at least a third of the work force. They are also among the most aggressive and creative workers out there. There will be certain industries and professions that will be hit really hard as most of them will be hitting retirement soon.

Many baby boomers are retiring early, because of the recession, and that is pushing them to find alternatives. The coming of the baby boomers retiring will be in the millions. With no one knowing how much longer there will be a Social Security fund, they are turning to the world wide web searching to find jobs, more friends, and other internet home businesses to keep them going strong in their retirement years.

Baby boomers are not quitters, they will find alternatives if their retirement does not provide for them what they are accustomed to. With more and more of them on the internet the percentage has increased for baby boomers to have an internet home business to replenish their retirement fund.

Quick Formula for => RETIREMENT

Hi Julianne:

EXCELLENT topic - important - many thanks for sharing.

BABY BOOMERS - Yes, they are a huge (and desirable) segment of the population - and we in the Home Business industry need to pay attention.

ECONOMY - This is especially true because of the current [global] economy Many are worried about the health of their savings / investments / homes / careers / retirements. It's been considered the worst downturn since World War II.

ENTREPRENEURS - More and more people are searching for answers - new alternatives. Many are choosing to set up their own business, either part-time, as an income supplement - or full-time, in order to replace their incomes.

Many prefer to work their businesses from the privacy of their own homes, as the best answer. Some options might include - Affiliate Marketing - Direct Sales - MLM-Network Marketing - Internet Marketing, among others.

NETWORK MARKETING - Over the past two decades, the majority have selected MLM-Network Marketing as their primary business model - and many have chosen to expand that business model with Inter-Network Marketing (building it Online).

BUT - the "transition" from past careers into a Network Marketing Home Business can be a shocker for many (most) - unless they seek out the right training / mentors / support.

You focus on the following aspect - a subject that - as a Financial Advisor - I'm a little passionate about. :>)

Baby Boomers - A Great Generation

Great article, Julianne. I agree. The recession is taking a toll on the baby boomer generation. I can say that because I am slightly older than that generation. But I don't feel that old. And I have found a way to transition from corporate America.

Yes, many have seen their retirement savings hurt by the recession - the stock market crash and falling home prices. But I feel that most who have been hurt will recover.

Like you said, most are well educated, aggressive, and creative. Many have had successful careers. They are also accustomed to giving - giving to help others.

Many will find the work from home, internet network marketing industry as a great alternative for utilizing their abilities and helping others. I know they will succeed.

Thanks, Julianne.
