“Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.” Proverbs 14:4 (NLT) The best recruiters often create the biggest messes for our team stables. However, without them a we simply cannot reap the benefits of exponential growth.  

The tendency of those who make great business leaders and managers, those whose careers are all about structural tidiness and procedural compliance tend to want to retrain recruiters to act like them. However, if they attempt to do so, the recruiters will either shut down or leave. The best recruiters are often messy, avoid structure, are labeled A.D.D., and get drowsy at meetings when they cannot actively influence people to recruit.

The fastest-growing teams see themselves as “stable cleaners.” Rather than requiring recruiters to change, corporate and field leadership teams continually rethink policies, procedures, structure, and communications in order to adapt and work around the recruiting oxen. They realize that keeping the oxen in the field working is much more productive than any efforts expended to team them not to leave procedural poo-poo wherever they go.
