How Greedy Can A Network Marketer Get?

Read More: Leadership

I have no idea how I landed on a network marketer’s blog.   We will call it Joe Smith’s Blog.   It carried good content and I could instantly tell he was promoting an online lead generation system that I also belong to.  What was not clear was which network marketing business he was promoting.

There was a tab on top which was labeled “Work With Joe” so I clicked on it.  The page it brought me to had three options if I wanted to “Work With Joe”:

  1. Join Joe in his primary group and he would provide his personal mentoring for free but he did state that “conditions apply”.
  2. You could hire Joe as your network marketing coach for $400 per hour.
  3. You could join Joe’s “Mentoring Group” and be sent marketing strategies for only $195 per month.

It would seem that my friend, Joe, is borderline ridiculous.  If he is using a this tiered pricing strategy to make it appear that he is a leader, I think he has missed the mark.  A true leader does not have to put a price tag on what he provides to his team members for them to realize how valuable he/she is to their individual businesses.  They know that their leader’s only goal is to see their business succeed and not to succeed at draining that team member’s bank account.

I have always believed – and trained team members – that we are all in this whacky network marketing field for the long haul.  It just is not right to grab profitable quick hits from those who look to us for guidance (especially new recruits) and who can least afford being zapped with any sort of fee structure.

Yes, in most of our businesses certain marketing tools must be purchased to get the business started.  These should be purchased from the company and not purchased through you or other team members.

My suggestion to new team members is always to purchase the least amount as possible and be very selective as to what is purchased.   Usually purchase discounts are available as you increase your order but you really do not know if a particular tool is going to work for you or not.

Think about it.  By your encouraging team members to purchase as few marketing materials as possible, you are giving them a chance to see if it works for them.  If it works, they will be back to order more.  If not, well they have not over spent on material they will never use.

Charging a fee for whatever service we provide as leaders is wrong and would certainly make me think twice before I got involved with that network marketer.
