In Response to Mike Klingler's Post - "I've Gotta Make This Work!" ... Finding the Only Shortcut & Taking It
Making Network Marketing & Home Based Business Work
I wrote this article first as a comment, but then shared it with my mentor Mike Klingler and he suggested that I should probably just create a blog post out of it. So I did! :)
This is a comment response to the article Mike Klingler wrote at Better Networker titled: “I’ve Gotta Make This Work!” … Finding the Only Shortcut & Taking It
It’s always inspiring to read your masterpieces Mike and then to see everyone’s responses. I am hoping that you will write a book one day, and archive all the great wisdom that comes out of you for the future generations.
I read this article once and I felt like it was written just to me. :) I know, pretty selfish! :) But hey, I read it two more times and you know what I am sure I will be coming back to it quite a few more times. Why? Because every time I read it I keep learning and getting another bit of insight from it.
I have been your student for 4 years and definitely got more mentoring hours than any other of your students. I had the amazing pleasure to work with you on a daily basis, and learn from you all the time.
I got to listen to you sharing a vision and future plans and then I got to be a part of the execution of that vision…and we all know that what has already manifested is just the beginning…
It has always been inspiring and also fascinating to witness the creation of one vision after another materializing. It’s even more fascinating reflecting back on it right now, and realizing that this Essential List was an Essential Ingredient for the vision to become the reality it is and what it continues to become.
In the last 3 years you had definitely embraced the Essential List and I got to be there witnessing it. That realization by itself is a huge experience.
I am stoked about not only being a witness but having been able to play a major contributing role in the execution of the vision.
I am tremendously grateful that you saw a potential in me and helped me rise up. Where would I be today without your mentorship and guidance?
Well, the reason why I said I felt like this article was written to me, is because only lately I have been faced with the reality that through my stubbornness I have been perceiving hard work as my short cut…but this short cut has been failing on me recently. ☺
Don’t get me wrong…there is nothing wrong with working hard. But working hard and forgetting or ignoring this Essential list or some of the ingredients in it is what gets me in trouble.
I am so ready to keep growing and I know exactly which ingredient I need to focus on now to move past my current threshold of resistance (i.e being stubborn about believing that hard work by itself is a shortcut to success).
And that is – a keen insight (making the finer distinctions) and the ability to cultivate partnerships.
Also, I feel that by focusing on being able to communicate well the value that I bring to others is going to allow me to influence others as well. ☺ Which kind of allows for the whole list to get naturally completed…just like a puzzle.
So for those who did not read MIke’s article yet here is the “Essential List” most avoid making their number ONE priority in business:
Focus on Developing:
- A Keen insight (making the finer distinctions)
- An ability to influence others
- An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
- An ability to create and communicate value
- An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
- An ability to inspire others by truly connecting with them, by listening
- An ability to cultivate partnerships

Focus on Developing
It's so true Didi, I remember those first few calls when Mike introduced his new student from Bulgaria, I remember making those 3-way cold calls together. You were a faithful, diligent student. If I remember correctly, it was your yearning for a better way, that brought Marketing Merge stumbling upon and embracing The Renegade Network Marketer.
The Essential List is a great measuring tool for me daily.
It is my desire to manifest these characteristics in my life and business.
I value highly, my involvement with Renegade Professional, SuperGuides, Mike Klingler and you. See you in January.
Getting it Done
I think most of us feel like we are sitting across the table with Mike with this one.
We all know that the journey to find a authentic way to marketing with true relationships is a lot of work.
We know that now, but, like Mike said the path to that realization takes many twists and turns.
Didi, your determination to understand and be real in your marketing has accomplished getting it done.
Working along Mike certainly is a bonus.
no short cuts
"lately I have been faced with the reality that through my stubbornness I have been perceiving hard work as my short cut…but this short cut has been failing on me recently. ☺"
It is this candid vulnerability, and transparent response to coaching that makes you the leader you are today Didi.
You will only move onward and upwards.
You go girl.
last puzzle piece
We all find nuggets daily that feel like the last puzzle piece for the learning curve of the day.
Readers of Mike's post will find many pieces that may fill in the blank spot for them.
Partners in Progress!
Wow Didi,
Very honest and insightful. It's pretty amazing what you have and Mike have accomplished over the last four years...what a thrilling ride it must have been.
The fact that you recognize the area you need to improve in, as well as acknowledging that putting the entire puzzle together will allow you to truly influence others is a major step of maturity that most people just don't have.
I am looking forward to making this journey with you, and totally value your friendship and working relationship we have together. You make things fun!
Thank you,
Eric Walker
Mike Klinger suggested that you make a Blog out of it?.....
Gee, that guy is just so modest! Having said that I have recently joined Marketingmerge and that guy is definitely 'The Business', Thanks Mike & Didi.
So I am half way there?
Hi DiDi
Looking at the list of essentials it appears that I am about half way to success! One thing to keep in mind is that the list is a "work in progress". Although all the points are essential success can be reached as you work on improving yourself - baby steps. I am excited to get to the second half of my success journey.
Great food for thought.
Dotty
We Appreciate YOU

I also greatly appreciate the way you've provided swift responses to any questions I've ever had over at RPro since Feb/08.
You are an inspiration to all of us - your story of progress and success, in such a short time, offers a beacon of hope to any entrepreneur.
Thank you for being YOU!

Heartfelt and Inspiring
Didi
The open honesty that you have expressed is more than words can say... I truly have enjoyed following of the leadership, especially the mentality to steadfast.
I really look forward to learning and working with you & Mike in the Renegade Professional SuperGuides Program.
Thank you,
Donna Wells
You are an inspiration
You are definitely a guiding light. Including your stubbornness. I think as Mike said, even stubbornness has a purpose if it can keep us on track long enough to figure out the essentials which make things fall into place.
Your openness is inspiring and again a guiding light leading all of us to rise up and focus on The Essential List" to access a whole new level of business--and life.
Heartfelt and a true Appreciation
Didi,
I just love your post. There are many that can not pour their thoughts and appreciation out like you have. You have just had this amazing ride and for you to be able to see where you have come from and where you are going is vision in itself.
We all have much to give to Mike for his wisdom and vision that we can all appreciate where you are coming from. I think that each of may have thought that the article was written for each of us too. I know I saw myself..
The essentials are the core and values that are a deep part of Renegade Professional and if we can all put then together we will each have our own successes.
Thank you for your heartfelt post.
I've watched you in your journey!
Didi,
You are in such a great place to influence, and be influenced by the best. We've all benefited greatly from your knowledge and experiences as you've learned from them.
It's a path we all have to take, and I'll add my stubbornness right along with yours and Mike's! I'm just glad that Mike took the time to keep us focused on the right path so we can work together.
I've watched you in your journey and I'm following behind you, so Thank You!
An ability to create and communicate
Didi, I think you're well on your way with the Essential List. Stepping into your qualities of integrity, vulnerability and courage are surely fulfilling for you and inspiring for us. Mike's mentorship is apparent.
stubborn...hmmm
aren't we all! Sometimes it's a great trait to keep the commitment of moving forward and surely, sometimes it works against you. The good news is being aware of it and doing something about it.
Open and Honest
Didi, You have been open and honest with your journey. I have seen you grow tremendously even before Renegade Professional. You have been an example to others with your enthusiasm and social networking. I like to see what "Didi" is up to when I need an infusion of social networking creativity :)
Kathy
Long Time Coming
Didi it's been a pleasure watching you grow under the mentorship of Mike Klingler. I can remember way back when when you and Mike used to hold the webnars for Renegade University and how helpful and insightful you were in helping many of us to understand all the technical stuff as it pertained to the video tutorials in the back office.
So here's to your Didi, and keep growing as I know you will. Mike Klingler keeps rising the bar but it's up to us to have a willingness to rise with him and a huge part of that is of course focusing on our essential lists.
I love U Guys! We R Super Rockin Renegade Family! Great Comments
@patcampbell - Oh yeah, weren't those some 3-way cold call times. :) I am really looking forward to meeting you in person again Pat! It will be our third time and we will have a great celebration, and reward ourselves for the achievements and progress we have made in the past so many years. :)I really appreciate your comments on this one Pat and your sincerity.
@EricWalker I am totally on the same page with this one: "I am looking forward to making this journey with you, and totally value your friendship and working relationship we have together." "You make things fun!" I really hope that's really true for you :D...lol
Oh, thank you @PeterArnold - you saying that means a lot to me. I have always enjoyed communicating with you. You always have something deep and insightful to share. I have enjoyed watching you participate in the social media world and learning from your insightful thought process, leadership and posture.
Thanks @DonnaWells and @ClaireCovigton very insightful comment...I didn't look at my post like that, but now that you've put it that way...I am really glad that I posted it and I that got everyone's attention back to focus just one more time on the Essential List.

@JimTicehurst – Yep Mike’s the business. ☺
@DottyScott – I agree baby steps are Essential! ☺ I am so looking forward to be around and know you and get to celebrate with you, when you find yourself in that place where you feel fully satisfied and know that you have reached the other half of your success journey.
Oh, thank you @PeterArnold - you saying that means a lot to me. I have always enjoyed communicating with you. You always have something deep and insightful to share. @AngelaJones - I guess it is important to continuously reflect on who you are, who you want to become and where in the process you are and also track your progress by acknowledging and giving yourself kudos for what you have accomplished. And I want to take a second here to make an acknowledgment again, becuase you said: "There are many that can not pour their thoughts and appreciation out like you have." and I feel that just 3 short years ago or even less than that I would probably not have been able to either. But one strength that I acknowledge I have is I watch, observe and learn from my teachers even when they don't directly teach me. So, back to @PatCampbell - you are right I have had a huge bonus working across the table with Mike Klingler and seeing his process of creating value content and ability to pour his thoughts out like he does. It has been empowering for me and I can't wait to see myself taking it to the next level. :)
@BeckyJoubert – Thank you, Becky! You are by no means behind; if anything you are in front. I watched your Super Guides Journey video yesterday, and I totally felt you and where you are coming from…You share some incredibly deep insightful and intelligent information. You are a Super Go Giver - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7JCS3YFuj4 You are a great person “to set a standard for what an attraction marketer really is”
Thanks @DonnalynnPolito I really appreciate you.
@KathyBeaman – Thanks, it has been a great pleasure knowing you and like Pat I hope that I will see you again in person, in January. That is so sweet of you to say, and I am super honored to know that I get to play a role in inspiriting your social networking creativity ☺
@KevinThomas – Thank you! And I would say the same in return; I have watched you grow and that you are one of the best examples of someone to learn consistency from. What’s cool about what you are saying about raising the bar is that all of us communicating about this will continue rising with the bar. ☺

Good blog
Nice to see this conversation...I've had my list taped up in front of me since Mike sent his inspirational email. Thanks!
Super Star..
Didi
In the year and half I've been in Renegade Professional I've seen you become the essential elements that Mike wrote about. You have grown into a great leader, and I'm pleased to learn from you.
Two Beautiful Minds
Hey Didi - I really love this entry and of course Mike's original article. In the world of online marketing, I often feel that there isn't enough time invested in helping folks understand that importance and vital piece of the puzzle called mindset. Both yours and Mike's pieces illustrate great leadership nuggets that all of us should be reminded of on a regular basis.
I am glad that you guys made your teachings available here on Better Networker as well!
Jerry
Didi Is An Exceptional Individual
Didi, your response to Mike's article is so very heartfelt and poignant. I have been working with you for over a year now and I can honestly say you are one of THE hardest working people I know. But what I see as most important and most significant is your ability to learn and move forward, You take everything on board, reflect on it and then move forward. Nothing is too hard or too big a challenge. Now, being able to focus on the 'Essentials List' will take you to the stratosphere!
You are a Super Star!
Hugs,
Deb
It's a pleasure watching you move forward and set an example for all of us to follow.
The Right Place At The Right Time
This is how I have felt since day one when I listened to Mike's first tutorial. As I go 3 steps forward and then 2 backwards each time I learn so much from Mike and his team. It really is a privelege to work alongside such talented and caring team mates that we have in Super Guides and being part of the Renegade Community.
This particular articele of Mike's I believe has had poingnant resonance for many of us who are at different parts of our journey and transformation. I shall certainy be reading this several times instead of just rushing onwards. Now is a time for reflection thanks again to Mike and Didi.
Thankyou for your honesty Didi.
I'm pleased to be at the crossroads with you and be able to move forward with such and incredible team of professional people.
Being a little stubborn myself
Hi Didi,
I can really connect with your stubbornness. I have been accused of it on many occasions. But, hey I am redefining it as perseverance.
Most qualities, have a flip side that can be considered a shortcoming or flaw. It's just important to know when you have crossed the line.
Keep smiling, I value your stubbornness and perseverance.
Appreciate You Didi
Didi - I know you have been there right from the beginning with Mike and both of you have always provided so much value to others (including myself). I couldn't think of a better group to be associated with. Thanks for sharing you thoughts.
