I have attended a number of network marketing functions where I have seen a relatively new representative giving “expert” advice to an even newer representative of the way the business should be conducted. In essence, providing instructions on how to navigate the road to network marketing success. The newbie all wide eyed and the instructor getting all pumped up that someone was listening to his words of wisdom garnered from being in the network marketing field for all of a month and a half.
Perhaps he is a quick learner but nothing beats following a leader wise enough to know that he does not have all the answers. And, secure enough to refer you to someone upline from him who would be able to provide you with the answers.
Nothing beats following a leader with years of experience on his side who can help you handle the emotional roller-coaster of operating your network marketing business. After all, chances are this person has been there, experienced that.
Nothing beats following a leader who has achieved promotional levels in your particular network marketing business who can advise you on how you can achieve all the various promotional levels that he/she has already conquered.
Once you have found such a leader, be grateful that he/she has taken a personal interest in you and your business’ future.
I know the temptation is there to do it your way. But think about it. If you have been involved with other ventures and done it YOUR way, how did that work out for you?
Let me give you an example. Recently someone came into my business and told me financially he had to put the business together quickly and would do whatever I advise him to do. I instructed him how to enter the business (i.e. which payment level to enter the business) and then once this was confirmed to me I would advise him what to do next. Of course he did not listen and purchased a package which would make it nearly impossible to succeed at least in the near term. And, worse yet, started sending out email to his prospects without using any of our successful email scripts which we know work. Why would we offer them to our group members if we ourselves had not first tried and tweaked them?
Sure, it is easier for you to let your entrepreneurial spirit shine but put it in your back pocket, at least in the early stage of building your business. We played the childhood game of follow the leader in our youth. It is even more important that we play that game in the beginning stage of our network marketing business.
