Like A Rock
What is it about that Mike Dillard???
What it is about Jonathan Budd???
And what about Hoverson???
Dani Johnson’s got it too…
Randy Gage has it in SPADES!!!
Yeah they are incredible business people…
But there is just something about them…
Something INTANGIBLE.
You can’t quite put your finger on it but you can FEEL IT.
And when you listen to them for a little while you FEEL LIKE MORE.
You feel bigger…larger and STRONGER.
Don’t you?
Early on in my career I began to notice the difference between guys and girls like the ones mentioned above and everyone else and I decided that I wanted to be like the BIG GUYS who always seemed to move with such easy and flow.
You NEVER saw this type get all riled up.
You NEVER saw them sweat…
All you saw was GRACE and BEAUTY and THAT was what I wanted.
Heck…I watched my first mentor do nothing but play golf and ride around on his huge boat and make $800k a year and I wanted a piece of that…
So then and there I decided that I was gonna spend more time on studying their mannerisms and their THOUGHT PROCESS and most of all the PSYCHOLOGY behind what they did.
And what I discovered is that people do not follow people who WAIVER.
In order to have the success you want…aside from learning the business mechanics that you need..
You MUST become a ROCK.
Rock Solid of Action
Rock Solid of Mind
Rock Solid of Spirit
And UNTIL you do the MENTAL work to get to this place…
No program and no product is gonna give you the success you desire.
It just DOESN’T EXIST.
So as you consider your plan of action for 2011…
Please consider what you are studying.
Please consider the work you are doing.
And whatever you do…find yourself a ROCK…A MENTOR who has walked before you and who can groom you as they KNOW the moves that you need to learn.
There are certain things that you can not learn from a webinar…
No matter how many times you watch it.
You need CORRECTION from a master.
Walk with a ROCK and be PATIENT and you too can become a ROCK.
And when you do…people will follow you to the ends of the Earth.
It’s THAT easy.

It's Like They Have Super Powers...Right?
Some may label it as such (I wrote about this in my last blog post) but that describes the ninety eight people out of 100 that see it as something unattainable or simply difficult to reach. Yet the other two people believe wholeheartedly on the idea of setting a strong mental foundation, a mental attitude which in turn serves as the starting point for all goals and dreams.
You see that ROCK solid mental attitude is critical because it converts the brain into a sort of electro-magnet which attracts the same type of dominating thoughts, goals, and purposes that you store in your mind. At the same time it attracts an equal type and number of one's fears, worries, and doubts. By the way, there's scientific research that backs this up.
As a result, leaders know the power of mental attitude and know how to attract what will serve them and their people. To be a rock solid leader it's important to learn and adopt a set skillset but it is equally important to study how to strengthen your mental attitude such that you too can exude a "rock" status.
So what does all that mean...you can learn this stuff! I agree with you Diane that it's important to find a mentor. You also have to be up for the challenge. If you're in this industry, your thought process is not in line with the masses. You see more, you see the potential...it's time to follow up with that thought process.
Becoming a Rock
I love your article Diane! I too have watched these kinds of people over a few years wondering how to become like them. And now since meeting you and applying the skills you have imparted to me, I am in the process of becoming like that. I know it takes a little time, but I will do it. Why? Because I know I can!! Thanks Diane!
I Love this!
So true. Rock solid action and mindset are the foundation. All the other pieces of the puzzle are built on that foundation.
Become a Rock!
Becoming a rock is a process, and if you are not patient enough you will spin your weals until you...well stop and stand still. The only way to gain this quality is by observing, learning and hanging with those who are IT. Great article Diane!
Wow, You Nailed It!
Wow Diane, you really nailed it with this one. I especially like the part where you said, "when you listen to them, you feel like more. You feel bigger and stronger." Awesome observations.
It's also true that finding a mentor who has done what you wish to accomplish is pretty much non-negotiable if you want to realize True Success.
But how do you find them? Like anything else, things don't happen by chance. They happen when you've prepared yourself and are ready for them. I've gone through this process a few times and have found the mentors I've been looking for by preparing, by getting ready and by being observant.
Of course, the first step is to get noticed by the mentor you wish to study with. This may seem like a huge issue, since the big guns are really busy. But it isn't as hard as you think.
How To Get a Mentor To Notice you
Hey Dr. Bob...
Glad you liked the article and I can tell you have been in the game for some time by your words and know how to find the right mentors...for any of the rest of you who are reading and are wondering how to get a ROCK to notice you...
Here's a video I did ages ago that may give you some ideas.
This one is from back in 2007

Hope it helps a bit :)
BAM!
Hey Diane,
You did it again... I ALWAYS love reading your content! :)
Time and time again you continue to share your wisdom and experiences, which are tremendously valuable.
Having a mentor is really the missing piece to help people to soar to new levels in not only in their business... but also in life.
We all have blind spots and a mentor is like that extra pair of eyes that can see what you may not see.
Happy 1-11-11!
- Yo
I do not agree!
Let's see your argument:
If I start following George Soros...Warren Buffet...and Donald Trump...for some miraculous process I can become like them.
First of all I do not want to be a stone or rock...I want to be flexible maybe like the bamboo...very strong but flexible.
Second of all...people slow down their progress for following other people's agenda.
My humble advise is be yourself...find the best inside you...follow your path...you are not Dillar or Budd or any one else...you do not know what they carry in their conscience..or what personal traits they possess that you do not posses.
There is nothing more satisfying that find out WHO YOU REALLY ARE...WHAT YOU NEED TO DO...and WHAT IS IT YOU WANT TO HAVE OR TO ACCOMPLISH.
I once watched a video when Bruce Lee told to a Kid: "be like the water my friend"...he does not said be like a rock or a stone...much less follow other person's steps.
Of course as long we learn good things we can learn from other people's successes...but it is impossible to be CabonCopyPro here.
Be well,
Roger Aburto
Very Inspirational.. Thanks
This was a really motivating article. The people you mentioned do have something about them... that you just cannot explain. I think we also have something unique inside of us.. and we just have to bring it out. :)
Agree to Disagreement
Hello Roger,
I, for one, do agree with what you've said here. I think that we should observe/study other people for qualities we like, then find or develop similar qualities we find within ourselves, but we also cannot lose ourselves (what makes us unique) in that process.

This Is About Becoming MORE Of YOU...Not Less
The concept presented in the article is that we must find a strong mentor who can guide us along our path.
It does not in any way indicate that you need to become like the person who teaches you in the end...
It is just sharing that all masters learn from a master.
Take surgeons for example...
While they are in school for years and years they must sit at THE SIDE of a master surgeon to learn all the moves and how to avoid all the pitfalls of surgery.
They must do it THE MASTERS WAY until they have extreme skill and THEN they can go out and revolutionize the field with their own developed techniques.
Can you imagine is surgery was taught by webinar as opposed to hands on???
And can you imagine if a young surgeon said to his teacher...
You know what...
I am gonna do it MY WAY cause I am unique!
People would be DEAD left and right.
And that is EXACTLY what happens in the home business industry as young marketers with a few internet skills go out and claim to be
coaches and trainers.
They KILL PEOPLE...financially and emotionally.
Look at all the really big guys...
Look at the people I named in this article.
Every single one of them sings the song of their mentors because without their mentors they would not be as skilled as they are.
And then...as they reached the pinacle of the industry they turned around and became mentors in their own right as they know they are part of a chain and they are to pass the LEGACY on.
I dare say that none of those guys "lost themselves" due to the mentoring process.
They became so much MORE of themselves as a result.
So just some thoughts.
A ROCK never loses themselves.
They just seek to become stronger and stronger and doing that through the experience of others who can show you the way is just SMART BUSINESS.
I am forever grateful to those that have shared their life's work with me.
And I will always be.
Knowing What We Want And How To Get It
Hi Diane,
Great article. We all want basically the same things in life. It's just some of us know how to obtain what we want and others do not. For those who don't, just ask yourself what can you do for the person next to you. You may have no shoes to wear, but he may have no feet. Maybe you need new glasses, but she may be blind. There are always others that can use your assisstance, no matter how bad off you may be.
Being a mentor does not necessarly mean one has to be much smarter. It means being kinder and helping others less fortunate to find their niche in life.
Thank you so much for being a mentor to those who are in need.

I Agree
Perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying. What I gleaned from your wonderful article is that we need to develop the power to focus and never waiver from the path that we are taking to success. I think that the people you mentioned are rocks they have a rock solid focus on their agenda. To attain success we MUST stay on target. Everyone we encounter must recognize what our path is all about who we are and where we are going!
Great post. Thank you for writing it.
They were hungry for more
As I understand it, all these people, prior to their current successes struggled at one time in their life.
Dillard, Budd, Hoverson. Heck, Dani Johnson lived out of her car at one time I believe.
These people had that hungry for more or I want more from life attitude. They demanded it, more from life, and went after it with all their being, and life delivered.
They have since touched so many lives. I constantly hear from many of today's raising stars in the IM world tell of how they were mentored by J. Budd, Dani Johnson, Mark Hoverson and Lord knows how many lives Mike Dillard has affected.
I did not mention Randy Gage because I don't know of his story, I do have one or two of his books, but have yet to read them.
One other mentor I might add, not mentioned here, he also has a great success story, Matt Morris, the author of the great book, "The Unemployed Millionaire."
Good Points about Leadership and Mindset
Good points presented here about cultivating the proper mindset. I especially appreciated this point: "UNTIL you do the MENTAL work to get to this place…
No program and no product is gonna give you the success you desire.
It just DOESN’T EXIST."
That's a very true and realistic statement.
Also, I appreciated the points about finding a good mentor. A good mentor inspires leadership in those who seek it.
Being and Doing
Thanks for your post Diane,
I have felt that same thing so many times. I think that there are so many who focus on the doing as first and foremost and neglect the being. When we see great leaders and are affected by them, it is their Being that comes through to affect us. That boost we feel by being exposed to them, whether it is the result of mirror neurons firing in our brain or energetically we start to resonate with the level of being they are at.
I totally agree with what you said about mentors. It is so important to surround ourselves with greatness to help stir the greatness that is inside of us.
Wow You Struck a Nerve Again
Thing thing I Like about your writing Diane is the way you let it all hang out there. Some people don't get it; the frankness; the honesty and the thought behind your words. It is important to be yourself, of course A Mentor can help you to emphasize those parts of you that make you special and that will attract the crowd that is meant to follow you - kind of like staining wood - the right amount of sanding and the right stain can make a nice piece of wood STUNNING - That is what a Mentor can do for you
Success Leaves Clues....
Hey Dianne,
Thanks for sharing such a great article. Success definitely leaves clues, and you took the step that everyone should take....to learn what the leaders do, study them.
I love sports, and when I was growing up, I used to aspire to be like some of them. I watched their every moves, tried them countless times, until I was comfortable, then moved on to studying a new move by the same players. As Robert Kiyosaki puts it..."having heroes". Learning from these guys will push us towards success, or mastery of the skills we wish to attain.
Like Mike Johnston, I totally agree with your point about having it all sorted MENTALLY first and foremost.
Thanks for sharing such a great article.
Michael T. Makahamadze
P.S. I totally agree with Wes about your writing style too.
I Love This Article
Yes, it is really difficult to describe, but when you are in the presence of someone like this, you just know they are playing on a higher level and you want to play there also.
Jim Rohn said that before things can get better, you have to get better. It is all about getting the right mindset. You can win the lottery, but without the right mindset the money won't make you happy, and you will probably lose it within a year or two.
Getting the right mentor is so important.

Nice post! Love Your content
Nice post, and I love your content! What about these gurus that you mentioned? One thing that I'm sure, they provide tremendously value and inspire a lot of people!
