That Dog Just Won’t Hunt

Read More: Leadership

I grew up in the West where hunting is a big thing. And with hunting comes dogs. Dogs are very useful to track, flush out or hold the prey tell the hunter can catch up.  Now when you go to buy a dog to hunt with, you want a hunting dog. Not a working dog, or a toy dog, but a hunter. Like a Lab or some type of hound. Those are good dogs suited to hunt with.

Now every once in a while a hunter will buy a dog, train it, and try to hunt with it, But the dog just won’t hunt. I guess no heart for it. And you cannot make it do something it does not want to do. No matter what, and so for hunting it is a worthless dog.

Now what happens when you get a new distributor that just won’t hunt. Well, that is more interesting than a non-hunting dog. They have signed up to do your business, going to bust loose the thing, be your top guy in no time flat, but never does a thing. Won’t hunt. And, here is the key, you are not going to make him hunt. Oh, the guy may look good at a meeting or sound great over the phone, but that is it.

So what do you do, well if you’re smart you find someone else to spend your valuable time with. It is just that simple. Don’t cry over spilt milk, just move on. You can ask why, and he may tell you, but bottom line it is better to find a worker willing to do what it takes to build a business than a hot shot want-a-be.

I really do not like the term “it is a numbers game”, because each person is important to me. And if they took the time and money to invest with us, I want to see them succeed. But both parties have a part to play.  If your new distributor won’t work, do the things that create a business, then you’re better off not spending time there.

However what most new or non-professional distributors will do is try to breathe life into a dead body. They do not have much of anything going, so they need this new one. If you want to succeed in this business, one major key to succeed is:  stop needing people. You cannot lead what you need.  Leaders set the bar, and the ones who truly want a new life will measure up. The rest just have a pet excuse.

Now one final point, one of the best things to do in any team building is to lead. That means if you want your team to build, you have to build first. Lead the way; it has always worked for us. When someone says it cannot be done, we go out and show them it can be done. Works every time.

May God Bless Your Business today.

Thanks Linda, No matter what we do, not everyone will dance, some just like the bench.
