Three of 21 Irrefutable LAWS of Leadership

3. The Law of Process - Leadership Develops Daily, Not in a Day

Becoming a leader is a lot like investing successfully in the stock market. If your hope is to make a fortune in a day, you're not going to be successful. What matters most is what you do day by day over the long haul. If you continually invest in your leadership development, letting your "assets" compound, the inevitable result is growth over time.

Phase 1:  I Don't Know What I Don't Know

As long as people don't know what they don't know, they aren't going to grow.

Phase 2:  I Know That I Need to Know

Many people find themselves placed in a leadeship position only to look around and discover that no one is following them. When that happens, they realize that they need to learn how to lead.

Phase 3:  I Know What I Don't Know

To grow as leaders, people have to realize they don't have all the answers or the skills as leaders. They need others on their journey of growth.

Phase 4:  I Know and Grow, and It Starts to Show

When people recognize their lack of skill and begin the daily discipline of personal growth, exciting things start to happen.

Phase 5:  I Simply Go Because of What I Know

People's ability to lead becomes almost automatic. They develop great instincts. And that's when the payoff is incredible.

- John Maxwell

I am not a natural born leader! I recognize that so I have read a lot of books, and watched other leaders, and asked for help to be able to grow into the kind of leader that people respect, trust and follow. John Maxwell is a great teacher and I have learned a lot from him.

LAW 3 Leadership Takes Work On Self

Hi Connie,

Great post. Leadership does take work and it is diffcult. It is just like a butterfly coming out of the cocoon. If you allow it to struggle in the growth process of emerging into what it is to be then it will fly own it's own. If you break open the cocoon for them then they will die from lack of strength and drive...

Again Thank you for the awesome lessons.

If you Lead They will Follow

Being a leader means knowing more then they do on a Subject your Group wants to know about. If you know more them then you are a 1 eyed king in the Land of the Blind they will follow. So yes Educate Yourself Daily so you can be the kind of Leader People know like and Trust.
