You Can't Build A Reputation on This.......
"You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do."
The quote above, by Henry Ford, sums up what often happens with many home business people.
There have such great plans, dreams, goals and excitement. But people get stuck at the place where they need to take action. When I work with home business builders and network marketers in a coaching capacity, our time is often spent in this area.
You can compare your plans as a home business person to taking a trip. In order to go from NY to CA, you need a map and you need a mode of transportation. In your home business, you also need a map and a method. Let’s say that you are going to drive from NY to CA, and that you have a brand new Porsche to drive in. Not a bad way to make the trip.
So you have one of the best modes of transportation in the automobile industry. To get ready for the trip, you clean your car inside and out including a hot wax job. You detail the dashboard and make sure all the fluids are correct in the engine. You set up you CD’s and put a nice steel water bottle in the cup holder. You stand in the driveway and look at your beautiful car.
Guess what?
You are still not on your way to California.
Why?
Because you have not gotten in the car, turned the ignition on and pulled out of the driveway. (There's a great network marketing training book that develops this analogy--The 45 Second Presentation That Will Change Your Life, by Don Faille)
This is exactly what happens with many people in their home business or network marketing business. They find the best vehicle in their industry (best company, best product, best comp plan). And they study, learn, get on training calls and read all they can about their industry and their company. But for an assortment of reasons, they don’t get out there in the world and start talking to people. Whether it’s online, on the phone or in person, the only way to develop business is to communicate with others about your products or opportunity.
As long as your car or your business sits in the driveway in preparation mode, you are no closer to your destination than you were before you even had the car. So stop fooling yourself.
