Today's Economy

In today's economy almost everyone I know struggles to make ends meet each month. The signs of this struggle is all around us in the form of longer unemployment lines, more out of business signs and boarded up houses. We are truly blessed as entrepreneurs and home based business owners to be able to make our own income. But even the most successful business owners I know are starting to consider the benefits of living simply.

Less Is More

Approaching life from a place of simplicity and minimalism will actually expand your enjoyment of life exponentially. When we slough off all of the behaviors that keep us sleep walking through life, we awaken to the true beauty around us. Moving into this space can do wonders for your life and business and can lead to some amazing breakthroughs.

5 Steps to a More Simple Life

1. The first and most important thing you can do for yourself is to de-clutter your living and work spaces. A cluttered environment causes blockages in your life and business. Throw a yard sale and turn that junk into cash or give it all away to charity. Just get rid of it. It might sting at first but trust me, you'll be glad you did.

2. Find ways to make the process pleasant for yourself. Simple living can be a bit of a shock to our system depending on our personal levels of consumption. One friend of mine took all her spa and beauty supplies that had been collecting dust in her closet and pampered her way to a clutter free bathroom.

3. Take a look at what you consume and find ways to cut back. Whether it's potato chips or red wine, we all have things we consume in quantities much greater than we know we should. Make today the day you cut back on those bad habits. Through away the concept of "dieting" and say hello to simple, healthy living.

4. I can already hear the protestations and gasps of horror, but do consider downsizing your car to a more efficient model or...dare I say...get rid of your car(s) and start biking. Not only will you save a ton of money, improve your physical fitness but you're also doing your part to preserve our planet.

5. If you're a shopper, now is a perfect time to replace those trips to the mall with a yoga class, meditation workshop, walk in the woods or anything that feeds your soul. Make a promise to yourself not to purchase anything else unless you get rid of something similar. This will help keep your life clutter-free and you'll be surprised at how your bank account suddenly seems to grow.

Be Patient. Be Persistent.

Don't give up, this isn't the easiest change to make in life but living simply can bring about so many positive changes, it seems silly not to at least try it. Take your time and don't try to make too many changes at once. You'll soon see the benefits and wonder why you hadn't started sooner!
