Medical Professional Burn Out
Job Burn Out? Tired of working long hours?
More work for less pay? Medical Profession Burn Out?
If you are like me, your medical days are numbered.
In the eve of government controlled health care and hospitals on the brink of collapse after a difficult recession. No wonder our doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers, and the like are all stressed to the max.
The days of fair (not to mention good) compensation is over.
If you want to really get ahead in your profession you find that you must somehow monetize your business. If you are a pulmonologist you are probably looking into a sleep lab. If you are a nephrologist, then you probably already have been forced into owning a dialysis center. If you are a nurse you might have made extra money reviewing lawyer's medical malpractice files. If you are a therapist, you may have considered a home health company or durable medical equipment company.
Do we really have to go to these extremes? Shouldn't our degrees be enough?
What can we do?
Well, there are many answers to that question.
We can pray. We can do yoga for stress management. We can pick up extra shifts. We can band together, support our national lobby organizations. There really is not a perfect answer.
I have been studying this for several years now while finishing my Ph.D., and the answer that I keep seeming to find is diversification. As professionals, we are often myopic is nature. We are so focused on the patients clamoring for our attention that we miss the greatest opportunities that are in front of us.
Fortunately, if you are fairly conservative, you have some amount of money for investing. However, instead of throwing it blindly into the gamble of the stock market, why not try some new investing adventures.
I have been looking into these opportunities over the past year. From franchises, real estate, and nutritional lines, I have looked into all sorts of ideas. There are some really great opportunities out there. Some will be in your comfort zone and others will stretch right out of your box. What is important is you keep looking, keep growing, and keep your eyes open.
