Attitude & Mindset - Defines Your Success
Attitude and mindset are very essential in business success as well as personal success. I was really thinking about this the other day and remembered a time when I was in high school that I think will really illustrates this point.
My boyfriend broke up with me. I know, shocking isn't it. I was actually devastated and went home really confused. I didn't understand why he decided to end it and he really didn't give any explanation.
I ran into him about a year later and I took the opportunity to ask him why. This is what he said:
You were out of my league. WHAT? Wait a minute. How could he possibly think that. This was a good looking guy, great sense of humor and I thought we really connected.
He then proceeded:
You always dress nice, are smart and rich. I don't have a lot of money and just can't give you the things you are used to.
WAIT A MINUTE! I'm rich? I didn't get that memo. In fact, I was truly the opposite: VERY POOR!
At the time that we dated and the time he made that statement, my family was living without electricity, running water or a phone. We simply couldn't afford them. I shared my clothes with my sisters and luckily, we weren't going to the same school yet, so no one noticed. We hauled our water up from the creek and heated it on the woodstove for bathes and washed our clothes in the bathtub and hung them to dry. This was my life for 6 years!
So, when he gave that explanation, I was simply blown away. The fact is, I may have been financially poor, but I didn't see that as a reason to stop educating myself or keep clean or hold my head up like I was somebody. You can be clean and well spoken even if you don't have money. No really, you can.
The state of your pocket book should not define the state of your being. Period.
I think if I would have been a victim of my poverty, then I would have turned out much different. I wouldn't have the drive, ambition or determination to succeed. I wouldn't have constantly been learning and working on bettering myself. I just wouldn't...
I am lucky to have lived like I did. It helped define me for who I am. I was brought up to have the attitude and mindset that I matter and I can do ANYTHING I set my mind to.
My point is that it is all attitude and mindset. If you are struggling and maybe don't have much right now DON'T let your mind tell you that you aren't worth more. You have SELF WORTH no matter what state your life is in. If you can start realizing that today, you will be amazed at how much better your life looks like tomorrow. The glass is half full my friend!
