Change the situation instead of being changed by the situation

 Change, if there ever was a time to do this now would be it. In essence, this is what a leader does. Let’s pick the leader of these three a carrot, an egg and coffee. Three everyday objects but only one changes its situation.

A carrot starts out straight and firm, an egg starts out with a hard shell but is all soft in the middle. Then there is coffee, add boiling water, they all change but only one changes the situation. Take the carrot out of boiling water you have a mushy carrot and water. Take the egg out of the boiling water and the hard shell is now weaker with former soft center all hard. Take out the boiling water from coffee and you still have coffee. The water and coffee completely change.

What challenges have you been facing in your career, family life, physically or spiritually? You can think of any of those situations as the boiling water. So who do you want to be of these three? You got it, coffee is the leader here.

Some people are like carrots with the challenges in the change happening around them. Oh, they act tough enough but the challenge softens them up and they don’t stand up for themselves any more. Some people are like the egg as they confront their challenges in life. They get hard and set in their ways. Unwilling to change with or to the situation.

I feel that many with their home based business jump in the boiling water and jump right into the next best thing without changing the water or themselves in any way. You may be in the perfect business for you just in lukewarm water or you may have jumped into a home business more like a carrot where you boiled the hell out of it and the business just did not stand up to the heat.

Situations in life are always going to boil you. Leaders change the situation. Even after they have left, things are different. If your opportunity is the coffee, great take these boiling economic times and change your situation, be the best leader you can be. If you’re just boiling and need a blend of coffee to change your situation, I have the ones I like or can at least point you away from a few of the rotten eggs out there.

Action step for you. Write a brief paragraph describing your biggest challenge in life right now. Then write another short paragraph on exactly how you’d like your life to be in that area. Finally, write a sentence that describes one specific action you will take this week no matter how big or small. Now put your one sentence in a coffee mug on your desk. Do what it takes to boil that this week. Do the same for your next challenge.
