Getting Your Mind Right
Twice a week I work out with a personal trainer and this morning was legs day. We don’t just do any old leg work out; this is ½ hour of gut wrenching, heavy, heart-pumping, leg bulging stuff that takes me to the outer limits every week. There is no getting used to workouts as every week it’s different.
This morning on my second set of squats, my trainer Bobby loaded on 300 lbs to the rack. This followed a set of 220 lbs. I looked at him and said that’s too much this early in the game. He looked at me and said, Josh….”Get your mind right.”
At that moment, something lit up inside of me. I knew that I had heard that before from a few past coaches of mine as well as in a few books. Needless to say, I took a deep breath and plowed through the set with ease.
You see, we are all responsible for our thoughts. Our thoughts dictate everything about our future. What you think about most will come about in your life.
The challenge is most people don’t have their mind right because they don’t filter what they allow into what I like to call “The eye gate” and the ear gate”. Whether you know it or not, you are being programmed by everything you hear and see and your brain absorbs it all. Your subconscious holds everything, which is how you recall childhood memories and such.
If you sit in front of the TV watching Oprah all of the time, you will start to think and possibly talk about the things you see on Oprah. If you listen to Eminem, Too Live Crew or other artists, you will connect with those lyrics and yes, some may slip out in your conversations with people.
I prefer to have complete control over what goes into my eye and ear gates. Instead of watching TV, I read personal development books, attend webinars to increase my value and skill sets and am consistently educating myself.
Getting your mind right has EVERYTHING to do with becoming the best you possible. You will be paid in life according to the amount of value you have to offer the world around you. Low value=low pay. High Value = unlimited pay.
It doesn’t matter whether you are high school educated. Don’t let that be your excuse. Degrees don’t mean anything in today’s day and age and I know plenty of high school and grammar school educated multi-millionaires who are highly successful in their fields.
Getting your mind right requires discipline and this is an area in which most people are lacking in. If you’re not disciplined in one area of your life, chances are, you’re not in many areas in your life. Discipline yourself to read at least 30 minutes (minimum) every night. Do this for 21 days straight and it WILL become a habit. Once you tackled that, start working on self mastery and learning one new thing to master every week.
Once you begin to really focus in on education, you are going to want to share what you have learned with the world around you and that is going to be the tipping point in your life.
You were put here on this earth to excel, not remain stagnant. Challenge yourself daily to do something good for someone in the knowing that they can never repay you. Then, you will have made a difference.
