Gratitude a Key to Success
The Diary of a Blackberry Widow!
Sunday 16th May 2010 11.02am The beauty of my home town on a summers day
I am driving down the bypass on the way to nana’s, the sun is beaming in through the car windows, making my skin glow and the intensified heat from the sun passing through the glass is giving me that inner warmth that brings on joyful feeling of summer being on its way. Even though I know when I step outside the bitter north wind will hit me and remind me summer is not quite here yet! I block that thought out and embrace the warmth.
The boys are playing happily in the back of the car, Marc is at work but that’s ok as I know this is the last Sunday I will be making this trip without him. (He’s finally been able to drop his hrs at the restaurant and phase one of our plan will be complete) As I realise we are finally seeing our plans and goals fall into place I smile with a sense of satisfaction.
I switch onto auto pilot as I make the familiar weekly journey to see the lonely little old lady that can’t wait to spill out her life’s joy’s and memories as I walk in the door.
The Radio is playing my favourite song, Alicia Keys “Empire State of Mind (part 2)” I turn up the volume and start to sing, this song always inspires me (although I don’t think my signing would inspire anyone!). I feel the words effect me, the dream, the struggle, the determination we have in common, the knowing “if I can make it here I can make it anywhere” this line sends me back to a conversation between friends at a book club evening on Friday night (book club evening = 6 women, a book we have chosen to read and discuss, nibbles, lot’s of wine and girly chat!) We all come from different parts of the country and where reflecting on how so many people have moved to Norwich and stayed and those that leave almost always return.
Thinking of this conversation and realising how much I have taken the place where I was Born in, in its peacefulness and beauty for granted. Realising the city in which I am able to fulfil my dreams (our dreams) in, is one of the most safe and beautiful places on this planet brought a tear of joy and gratitude to my eyes, I see my home in Spain and realise it is just a part time home that compliments what I already have here.
I have defined my goals, my purpose and Marc and I have our plans that we work diligently to achieve, but it’s moments of gratitude like I had on Sunday that make it real and worthwhile.
So take pleasure in the simple and beautiful things in life. If you live in a hectic busy world find time to take it to the park, get up 15 minutes early to take the scenic route to work, find a place that’s beautiful to your heart, make each realisation of gratitude enhance your future visions of fulfilment. And keep them close to your memory and vision when you are working on your future.
Gratitude is one of the keys to success and you will be surprised how pleasant and fulfilling your life and journey will become if you bring it into your life on a daily basis.
Have an amazing day,
Donna
