HEAVY HITTERS: PLEASE SHARE YOUR NUMBERS
If you are a heavy hitter in network marketing, if you consistently earn $10,000 per month or more in your network marketing opportunity - please answer this question.
And when you do answer this question, please say nothing about all your hard work, your persistence, your system, or how "great" your company is or was until at least after you state your numbers.
A)State first please how many you had sponsored by the time you were making $5,000 per month.
B)And how long did it take you to sponsor them?
C)If you like, you may also state the greatest number of people you personally sponsored with a single company.
I'm asking you to do this because a lot of crap has been piled on top of the bottom line.
Because of this, there are hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of network marketers who are on the verge of quitting at this very moment because they feel overwhelmed, they feel intimidated and grossly ignorant, and they feel that the light at the end of the tunnel is too far in the distance to make it in a reasonable amount of time. They thought it was so simple... "two who get two who get two". But for umteen years they've been trying to make that scenario work to no avail. Some have been struggling in the industry for years - never making one tenth of their desired income.
Adding to that, many are just now learning attraction marketing techniques and that's great. But, it can be discouraging when you've been in and out of the industry for years only to feel now that many of those years have been wasted in ignorance (it's NEVER a waste if you were giving it all you got. NEVER! I'm only referring to a feeling, not a fact. Sometimes it just feels like a waste - even though it isn't). And with all this talk about HTML, FTP (or is it two T's), lead capture pages, autoresponders, copywriting, and Hyper-WhoKnowsWhat (that's "Camel Type" - I know that now :D ), a whole lot of crap can get piled on top of the bottom line.
Heavy hitters, let me change it up a bit. After I do what I'm about to do, I would really like your help. For a moment I want to talk with those network marketers who have been looking at themselves in the mirror lately, confused and saying to themselves: "What am I doing?". I want to talk to the ones who have pulled their car into a Randalls parking lot, parked it, and then put their head into to their hands and burst into tears uncontrollably crying from within the deepest parts of them selves, "What's wrong with me?". I want to talk to the men driving on the freeway to pick up their wives from work 11somethin' at night, breaking down on the inside, can't half see the lines on the road through the tears, begging for help from a Higher Power to help you do what you need to do - makin' sure you dry your face before your wife gets in the car.
Let me speak to you for a moment. Ok? I'm going to put my words in italics so that you can hear everything I'm saying to you ok?:
It's ok that you've been thinking about quitting. I've thought about it plenty of times myself. And you know what I've found out? It's OK to quit. King Solomon even said 'It's a time to seek and a time to give up as lost. For everything there is an appointed time'. Who is anyone to judge? Perhaps everything you've done has already served its purpose. It just may be time for you to quit. But, let me ask you this. What time did you appoint for yourself to 'give up as lost'?
What do I mean? This is what I mean. We have a bed time right? Yes, after so many hours in the day have been completed it's time to give up staying awake. And we also have a time to give up sleep, right? If we forget, we have the alarm clock to 'remind' us that the time for sleep has been completed. And when you go to school or college, you graduate after you complete a certain amount of classes.
What's your completion point with network marketing?
Completion point? Yes, at what point have you given yourself permission to quit?
I've given myself permission to quit at a certain point. And I feel good about it.
I don't know about you, but, the completion point I made for myself was not an income. I felt that that would be too frustrating for me because I can't control people. For me to make the type of income I wanted, I would have to have a large organization... and I can't really control what people will do. People may or may not work the business. "Two who get two who get two"... it never really works like that.
But, this is what I found out. No matter what you do, a certain number of people WILL build a business. And there's a certain number of people I'll need to process in order for them to appear in my group. And speaking in general terms, it's a finite number.
Let me ask you this one question. Have you ever sponsored 50 people in one company?
From what I have observed, those who have met or surpassed that threshold - the threshold of sponsoring about 30 to 50 reps, their business starts to take a life of its own. I'm already working to expand my view on this subject. But, so far, this is what I've found.
I have noticed this with people who've built businesses offline. I've noticed it with people who've built businesses online. I've even noticed it with people who believe Mike Dillard is bogus! Once they get past a certain threshold, it doesn't matter what they think about Mike Dillard. The income starts rolling in.
One of my mentors got past that threshold of 30 and now his income is closing in on $50,000 per month in his network marketing company. Although he has not read one book by Mike Dillard and he employed internet marketing the expensive way, he freely admits to me all the time that his business took off after that initial 30.
Another one of my mentors - the one who thinks Mike Dillard is bogus has seen over $400,000 in a single year with a company barely sponsoring 30. Ask him how to build a business and he'll tell you to write down a hundred names quicker than you can say, "get a clue". His mentor by the way has seen over $120,000 in a single month and over $3,000,000 in his network marketing career. He can't stand cold market prospecting!
I just wanted to let you know about some of these observations before you make a final decision on quitting. How many more do you need to sponsor before you get 50?
And I'm not saying getting 50 reps is a good completion point. Personally I prefer to break it down further because I can't control whether people join my business or not. So, let me share one last thing for you to consider.
How about picking some kind of system of sponsoring that you like - it doesn't matter whether it's online or offline. Then, work that system until you sponsor 1 person. Now, work it again until you sponsor another one. Average out the activity that it took you to sponsor those 2 people - that's your numbers game. Now ask yourself if you can reasonably repeat those same steps 48 more times.
For instance, let's say your prospecting system is 3-foot rule. That's perfectly ok if that's what you like. I forgot the numbers game on that - it's been a while since I did it. But, let's just assume that on average you have to get 30 phone numbers to get 10 promises to look at your opportunity to get 5 who actually do look at it to get 1 sign up. If that's the case, 30 phone numbers=1 sign up.
Based on those numbers, perhaps one could make their completion point at 1500 phone numbers gathered through 3-foot rule. One might say, 'Once I process 1500 numbers, I'm going back to school if my business ain't taking off by then. Even if no one builds a business I should be making at least $600 a month if everyone stays on autoship. That's pretty good. An income like that could help pay for college... and maybe a cruise to reward myself for my accomplishment.'
Or, one might decide to keep going and may even think of ways to process those numbers faster. I know of one person who's business began to take off between 50-60 enrollees. Eventually he sponsored over 200.
So, here's the bottom line: At the end of the day, all these systems and tricks and personal development books and who knows what else - it all doesn't matter unless the numbers game is respected. THERE IS A NUMBERS GAME. THERE IS AN AVERAGE NUMBER TO SPONSOR BEFORE YOUR BUSINESS TAKES OFF. ACKNOWLEDGE IT. USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.
Forget all that "two who get two who get two" stuff. It don't happen. But, when you pass a certain threshold, all kinds of things happen. Are you prepared to at least do the activity to meet or surpass that threshold thereby putting the odds in your favor? It's your journey. You're driving the vehicle. You determine your point of destination.
And once you have reached that destination point, you may see things from a different perspective, and there's no telling what you'll do next.
So heavy hitters, please share your story in the form of numbers. I know that this is somewhat of a crude an unofficial study - if that. But, I still think it will help a lot of serious network marketers to put things in perspective.
And during those times when we could use a little bit of encouragement and inspiration, we can look at your numbers and ask ourselves, "Have I at least done that?"
I can definitely see myself sharing your replies with my team. I can see myself sharing this information with a lot of people. There's a ton of network marketers who need to realize that there is a numbers game and that sponsoring 2 or 7 or 15 people and expecting a 6 figure income is unrealistic for most.
Besides, I'd much rather be a part of a team where every business builder who joins is dead set on sponsoring 30 - 50 reps (or whatever the true average threshold is; the numbers 30-50 are simply from my own observations). So I think it would help the success of the industry if we all got a reality check.
Right now I want to thank you so much for reading my post. Might I ask also that you invite some of your colleagues to share their numbers with the BetterNetworker Community as well. And if there is already some kind of report out there that already touches on this information, please make mention of it in your reply. I know a lot of people would appreciate it.
I thank you ahead of time for your contribution. I believe many sincere business builders will be empowered to finish what they started.
Sincerely,
Roy Clinkscales
P.S. One of the reasons that I asked that you include the time period it took you to sponsor your numbers is because of the role time plays in momentum. I feel it paints a more complete picture. Thanks
