Homeless People, Street Entertainers, and an Edgy T-shirt: Serious Masterminding in LA

Mariachi Band

If you are like me, when you visit a new city you like to go out and learn a little about your new environment.  If you have not been to LA it is like going to a city on speed…

You might see Mel Gibson chasing his girlfriend in the Hollywood hills, or a 55 year old man dressed up as a drag queen.

It is a city that never sleeps: thank God as I learned some valuable lessons last night...

I am in LA with Team Destiny to do a masterminding session with some pretty cool guys… shout out to the boys Ray, Ferny, Jim and David….I love these guys as we have learned a whole new language...

We can now speak a little "geekinese"!

We initially hooked up with these guys at an amazing Italian restaurant and the focus of much of the conversation was on my business partner Rick’s appearance. He was actually looking pretty cool…his wife Kim had bought him a funky T-shirt in Las Vegas…  The thing about the T-shirt is that he would not normally wear this as it was a little edgy and outside of his comfort zone.

What was really funny as that pretty much as soon as he put it on the,

Compliments were coming faster than Brad and Angelina are adopting another kid!

He walked in to the lobby and the concierge commented on it, as soon as he got to the restaurant the hostess commented on it.  Throughout the night he received 8 or more compliments!

We all get into a rut sometimes… and get comfortable with the way we do things...

Fear and the inability to put ourselves in a vulnerable position can limit us...

Rick’s t-shirt from last night reminds me that we have to step outside of our comfort zone.  Rick put himself out there and the t-shirt shows that when he did the whole world is open to a new and improved Rick.  That was our first lesson.

Our second lesson from LA, came later in the night as we grabbed a few beers and hit the streets...

On our way back we ran into a special homeless guy named Leon.  Leon is an engaging African American man who was playing the role of manager for a 7 piece Mexican group entertaining on the street.  As we were walking, Leon pulled us in and thank god for that as this was an amazing experience.  This group mesmerized us with their musical talent and passion!

When I reflect on this experience here is what I know...

Although in society we have been taught to loathe people like Leon and consider them worthless, I realized last night that although Leon may have lacked some musical talent, he was a natural born leader and marketer…  The mariachi band was most certainly the beneficiaries of Leon’s sales and marketing skills.  I am sure that Leon took a cut as well and it was well deserved!

The final lesson of the night was in the passion of the mariachi band...

When you do what you love and are passionate about it then amazing things are possible.

With Leon’s marketing talent and the bands musical prowess there is no doubt they walked home with some serious CA$H Wink

Speaking of cash... do you LOVE what you do everyday?

Can you truly say are you monetizing your passion?

This experience on LA has taken our business to the next level do what we LOVE.

hey Sherri,

first of all i only accidentally called you Sherry ONCE...and i swear it was an accident.

we had such a cool time with you guys and you're right this more PC version of the story is a lot nicer than our FB conversation about the same events.

you've done a pretty nice job with your "first" article on betternetworker. i somehow find that hard to believe though as it's so well written hehe.

keep up the amazing work you guys and i will see you soon!

Thanks Uncle chop chop!

I will forgive you this once about the "Sherry" thing... ;)

Seriously, we now have MANY more stories to tell about our journey thats for sure... no one will be able to argue that we didn't enjoy the ride!

... nothing like 15+ hours straight masterminding in the same room together followed by mojitos, salsa dancing, taco trucks and a million laughs...

We look forward to next time for sure!

Cheers,
Sherri

P.S. When you all heading up to Canada to visit us anyways? :P

Great Picture Of The Guitarists

That is a great picture of the guitarists. They really have passion for what they stand for. Without passion you get nowhere in business and in life!!

If they can do it so can we!!

Enjoyed your story

Liked how you started out as a story and turned it into a lesson. As of friday morning, I'll be on my way to LA myself for my companies yearly family gathering.
I haven't written an article yet, but feel yours is a great example to follow, thanks.

a little bit of twang...

I believe if you are not living your passion then you are doing yourself and those around you an injustice! Hope that you are enjoying your ride Lawrence, all the best to you (:

P.S. we enjoy a little gee-tar too!

Hey Robert,

What a great place to have a company family gathering... this was my first trip to L.A. since taking a Disneyland vacation with my family when I was 11 years old! It has lots of life and a tonne of action, hope you have a great time and come home inspired :)

Feel free to "template" this article for sure... if you have any specific questions please send me a private message.
