How to Generate an Abundant Mindset Through Gratitude
So the other night I was reading a book called Living In Gratitude, by Angeles Arrien. What a great book! I highly recommend picking up a copy... After I finished reading for the night it struck me like a BOLT OF LIGHTNING. I've written about the Power of Gratitude before, but until now, haven't found the best way to adopt and MAINTAIN the "Attitude of Gratitude" that everyone talks about when building a life of abundance.
You see, as Angeline (my beautiful wife) and I were about to doze off to sleep I realized that all of my great mentors, like Darren Hardy, Napoleon Hill, James Allen, amongst others say to keep your mind on what you ALREADY have - and be grateful for everything. They teach to avoid focusing on what is lacking in your life and to COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS. In other words..
...always keep your mind on what you HAVE, rather than what you think is missing in your life.
It is through this gratitude and abundance mentality that you will attract more of what you want in life.
Make a list of everything you are grateful for and always have it in sight
I realized that we had an old, relatively small dry erase board sitting around that we weren't using. I jumped up, grabbed it and propped it between my side of our platform bed and the wall. I began to write... I wrote down everything that I was grateful for - everything that held meaning in my life - everything that I normally take for granted. Being able to walk, talk, workout, see, hear... I listed the names of everyone I cared about in my life. Our daughter Surelle, our aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings... Our house, jeep, etc...
Then I asked Angeline to add to the list. She came up with an AWESOME list. We sat there giggling at some of the stuff we wrote - we had THE BEST TIME. Remembering our wedding, honeymoon and other great times.
This dry erase board will stay by our bedside forever to remind us both day and night of EVERYTHING we have in life. I've got to say that ever since we've done this we've felt at true sense of gratitude for everyone and everything in our lives.
What are you most grateful for? I highly suggest getting a small dry erase board, writing them down and keeping it by your bed - you can always add to, or change the list as things change. I know from experience that you will feel a true sense of peace, love and joy for what you have and what you've accomplished thus far.
