How I Lost 50lbs Without Even Trying
How I Lost 50 lbs Without Really Trying
How do you like that title? How I lost 50 lbs without even really
trying. Sounds like the title of an advertisement that wants you to go
out and buy a bunch of pills, or join a certain gym where you pay for
the rest of your life, right?
I know. I’ve read them all. Tried most of them and never lost a pound.
And if I did, I put the pound right back on plus an additional pound or
two.
But I’m not a fitness person; nor am I trying to sell you anything
related to dieting or losing weight. In fact, I’m not trying to sell you
anything.
But I did lose 50 lbs without really trying and felt that someone out
there might want to learn how I did it so that they can do it too.
For years I noticed how I was adding pounds on to my body. My dress size
kept creeping up higher and higher. Soon, I found myself shopping at the
Big Girl shops. Nothing wrong with the Big Girl shops. They have some
pretty fabulous clothes nowadays, thanks to people like Monique, the
comedian, and other Phat Girlz who have pushed for the styles to change.
But I wasn’t really happy with the way I looked lately. Not that long
ago, I use to stop them dead in their tracks (the fellows, that is).
I’ve been known to cause a few accidents in my Hey Day (LOL)! And I just
wasn’t feeling the plus size I had become.
I’ve tried all the diets out there. The Aktins, the California something
or the other—you name it, I’ve tried it. Yeah, they were cool and yes, I
lost a few pounds. But it was something I had to constantly be reminded
of and after a while, I don’t know about you, but my body started
craving those carbs. But once I got that taste of the carbs, it was hard
as all get out to get started again.
About four months ago, I came across a really great book called, “How to
Get Lots of Money for Anything—Fast.” The title of the book is somewhat
misleading because it’s not only about getting money it’s about getting
everything you desire. It teaches you how to set intentions and stick
with them without really trying—just getting on the level where you are
vibrating with what it is that you desire.
One of the intentions I set was to lose 60lbs. I set it, and forgot
about it. Then I started getting into some real stressful times. Due to
this stress, I started losing weight—and I wasn’t even trying. But the
stress was causing me to not even think about eating and I started to
lose weight. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t advocate stressing to lose
weight and I’m not talking about the stress that helped me to lose
weight without even trying. But after I noticed that I WAS losing
weight, I re-set my intentions, along with the help of a girlfriend of
mine whom both of us set a goal to lose weight before my birthday.
Now, here’s the part where it gets interesting. This is the part that I
started out talking about how I lost 50 lbs without even trying. Any
other time I tried to lose weight, I couldn’t or I didn’t. But this
time, I did. What makes this time different?
What makes this time different is that I “didn’t stress losing the
weight.” I just prayed on it, and told God that I trust that He will
guide me to lose the weight without feeling hungry or even thinking
about dieting. Then, I surrendered it all to Him.
Seriously. I simply surrendered it to God.
I said, “God, you know I want to lose this weight before my birthday.
You know that I want to get down to the size that I once was. You know
what I want and I’m turning it over to you. I’ve tried myself for years,
but to no avail. I’m getting out of the way and I’m letting you guide me
during this process. I’m going to surrender my weight program over to
you.”
And, guess what?
It worked.
Now, I know this may sound crazy to some of you who are reading this and
are saying to yourself, “yeah, right. What’s she have been smoking? I
want some.”
But I am here to tell you that it is the honest to God truth.
I have NOT dieted.
I have NOT exercised.
I have NOT been hungry.
It feels as if I eat all the time.
I know that my eating habits have changed but I have done nothing to
change them. In fact, I’m not even aware of the changes. All I know now
is that when I feel full, I don’t eat and I don’t finish my plate just
because I was in the habit of doing so. I grew up with parents who
forced me to clean my plate. “People in Ethiopia are starving. Eat all of
your food.”
I’m not consciously thinking to myself, “oh, don’t eat all this food.
Where’s the salad?” But I’m eating more salad and more vegetables and
simply do not have any desire for a lot of junk food. None of which are
conscious decisions on my part, but Godly guidance that is moving me in
that direction.
Do you get what I am saying to you?
Don’t worry about losing weight! Don’t stress it. Don’t even think about
it. Just turn it over to God.
Surrender your wants and needs to God and BELIEVE that He will guide you in the right direction. Get out of the way. Stop being YOU about it.
God’s way and your way are more than likely two different ways. Trust me
when I tell you, God’s way is the best way. You get the best result if
you let him guide you.
I’m eating less and have absolutely NO desire to pig out any more. And
I’ve not made any conscious decision to do so. It just happened. God did
it. I got out of the way.
You will have to do the same thing.
Your goal or desire may have nothing to do with losing weight. It may be
something completely different. But this works for everything in your
life that you desire.
Set you intention. Tell God about it. Ask Him to guide you.
Then—get out of the way. Surrender it to God! His way works all the
time. Yours may work for a little while, but his works ALL the time.
Surrender your will.
Job 22:21 Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity
will come to you.
