I Don't Have Any Fancy Videos

Read More: Mindset

I don’t drive a fancy car…

I live in a regular house (nice but not fancy)

Don’t have “hair and make up sessions”
And often times you can STILL find me cooking dinner with a headset on
so I can help people at the same time I care for my family.

I haven’t shot a video on the beach in California…not even once…

In fact…

I don’t have a SINGLE fancy video.

They’re pretty basic…

I just sit where ever I am and say what I need to say…

That’s it.

Me..I’m just a regular girl who cracked the code.

Yup..I figured out how the money is made.

And I am willing to bet that if you are reading this…

That’s who you are too.

Just a regular person who got involved with a network marketing
or a home or small business cause you wanted to make some extra money
or you wanted to do something really unique with your life so you needed
some extra cash to make it a reality.

We’re talking a couple a thousand a month for starters.

Right?

A couple a grand would probably get you on the road to what you want.

Yup…

I know your type.

I’m just like you….

And you really should know that there are MILLIONS of us.

People who are not looking to set up VIDEO STUDIOS in their homes to
try to appear like we are HOLLYWOOD STARS.

People who don’t want to write articles just because they contain the right
traffic driving keywords but would rather express a cool thought or idea.

People who just want to help some other people and earn a right living

Yet somehow everywhere you look we don’t see any ads or capture pages that offer this…

We see hot sports cars and beaches…

Mansions and yachts

And for the life of me I have NEVER understood WHY people go for this stuff….

Why  people get SO caught in it?

Oh sure…

Part of me understands…

I lived it when I was trying to lose weight.

I used to be severely obese.

And what I call a DIET INDUSTRY VICTIM

I never wanted a sensible plan that over time would product me the results I wanted…

OH NO…..

I wanted THE MAGIC PILL that would make me skinny overnight…

So I bought every supplement, lotion, potion, dvd set and expensive exercise jungle gym out there.

I racked up THOUSANDS of dollars in debt before I figured out that the answer was in ME

Ten years and a hundred pounds later I am a testament to that.

So I guess I was WAY lucky when I got involved in a home business because I
had already been through the “trying to buy success” phase of my life.

And I was not romanced by the sexy images that the industry flung at me…

I wasn’t looking to drive a Maserrati (can’t even spell it!) or become famous…

I just wanted to make $100 that week.

AND I DID…My very first week.

Maybe cause I didn’t get caught up in all the hoopla

But instead focused on what I already knew.

We all know how a store works…right???

The little local mom and pop store in your neighborhood…

They know their clientele…

They know what they like to buy…

AND THEY STOCK IT!!!

Holy Cow…what a novel idea…

Know your prospects and have what they want to buy!!!

Pretty basic..right???

Once I conquered that and decided to study marketing a bit
I figured out that fancier businesses just kept A LIST of their prospects and
customers and MAILED THEM STUFF to show the people all the cool new things
they had to help them out (EG: LL BEAN, The Sears Catalog ETC)

So like the simple minded girl I am I did the same thing…

Kept a list…and mailed them stuff to show them what I had to help them out…

And lo and behold…people bought MORE STUFF.

Then I got wild and crazy and decided to try it on the internet…

Treat people great…get to know what they want to buy…

Keep a list of em…

And mail (in this case email) them stuff to tell em how I can help em out.

TAH DAH!!!!!

Not a single fancy video needed.

No hot cars or bikini clad chicks (believe me..you DO NOT want me in a bikini)

No beaches…no McMansions…No exotic locales (well my backyard IS kinda cool)

Basically I just used plain old COMMON SENSE.

And here’s the KOOKY PART…

People will LISTEN to you if you make sense.

(Looking for “like minded individuals who share desire to create mutually beneficial entrepreneurial
relationships” DOES NOT MAKE SENSE in the real world –or on Facebook for that matter!)

I am talking when you actually MAKE SENSE…

Do you get that???

Truly get that???

And when you do make sense you don’t need any of that fancy marketing junk.

Heck…I barely spend a dime on advertising…

NO KIDDING.

It’s just all energy…vibe and a lotta commons sense and PEOPLE SKILLS

So before you go out and invest in the next “MAGIC PILL”
(and let me be the first to say that MANY of the training products out there are TOP NOTCH)

PLEASE O PLEASE stop and think for a minute.

And consider…

Could it be that you have known the answer all along???

Chances are the answer is YES.

And once you find that answer INSIDE OF YOU…

Rock and Roll….

Hire the video guy…

Go to Hawaii and shoot your heart out…

Get all fancy dancy and maybe even color your hair for the launch videos.

GO FOR IT.

But I just wanted to let you know that you need NONE OF THAT to have your first
$2 to $10k month.

I make that many times over and I still haven’t upgraded…

Heck…

I didn’t have this snazzly wordpress blog until recently…

Believe it or not I was making money hand over fist with BLOGGER…some Squidoo lenses, a few Hub pages
and some HANDWRITTEN post cards…

TRUE!!!

And you can too.

Don’t let all the glitz and glamor make you forget who you are and what you ALREADY KNOW.

As my mentor says…

You don’t have to get it right…you just have to get it going.

And like a dork I believed him when he told me I could start with all HOME MADE stuff.

Still use most of it to this day.

Cause think about it…

In all the hustle bustle out there…

When is the last time you got a handwritten post card with a scratch and sniff
sticker from a company…

Probably NEVER…

Yet my folks find them in their mailboxes all the time.

And that’s about as SLICK as Diane Hochman gets!

So don’t expect any fancy videos from me too soon…

No launch sequences…

No fancy capture pages…

No graphic designs

Just lil ol ME

And ten years worth of home business knowledge …

Reaching out my hand to you.

And saying…

BEGIN WHERE YOU ARE

Cause you are PERFECT right now…

And you’re only gonna get better…

How do I know???

Cause I BELIEVE in YOU

I BELIEVE in the industry

And I BELIEVE in possibilities.

And I believe in crappy home made videos that SAY SOMETHING.

And that’s why I don’t have any fancy videos

And chances are I never will.

Called As Seen

(quote) "Don’t have “hair and make up sessions”

(quote)

I guess I'm still a bit below "average". My girl still really likes a "hair and nail session". Seems like a big thing to her.

I thought it was just something girls like to do.
You know, their hair and their nails.

You don't do your hair and nails? That doesn't make you feel nice?

And I thought the thing was to get to spend MORE time with your family.

Does any single person reading this BS actually believe that you're cooking dinner and serving your family while paying attention to someone ON THE PHONE?

How EXACTLY can you help someone on the phone while you "CARE" for your family?!

My advice to you is to delete this post before lots of other people (like your kids) figure out what you're really all about.

Dang.
What a load.

Don't Criticize what You Don't know

If there's one thing that Diane Hochman is, it's the real deal.

She tells it like it is and puts on airs for NO ONE.

No hair appointment? So what?? How many of D's videos have we seen where she is "camera ready" complete with a baseball cap on her head or her now famous ponytail?

To suggest that a mom can't work from home and care for her family is equal to suggesting that a woman who works outside the home can't either. There are "work hours" either way. And by the way, it IS possible to cook and talk at the same time. If YOU'RE a mom, you understand that preparing a nutritious meal is just ONE WAY of caring for your family.

BS??

Let's see...

She's a trusted instructor here on BN...
Do a search for her on this site and find 27 pages of stuff...

Then check out her YouTube channel...

Then all the free training at DianeHochman.com...

Then attend her free Summer of Success trainings...

A "load"?

Is that why she has protégés around the globe?
Is that why she's been around for over 10 years?
Is that why she makes money hand over fist?

All of that said, it's impossible to count how many times Diane has ended a phone conversation, interrupted or canceled a conference call, rescheduled something or has made it known that she's simply NOT AVAILABLE because her family and their needs come first.

It's clear that you TOTALLY MISSED THE POINT of what she was trying to say, Dave. This is not about whether or not she gets her hair or nails done. (Which you'd know the answer to if you knew Diane) With so many unscrupulous people out there, many people (men and women alike) have been misled and believe they have to buy some special piece of equipment or go to some fancy place (dressed to the 9's, of course)…in essence, be someone they aren’t… before even starting to think about actually marketing.

Far too many have fallen victim to this kind of thinking and she’s making the point that you that you can start where you are…with what you have…being WHO you are.

Diane is putting herself out there as the example...don't wait on the right outfit, hairdo, manicure, camera, location, etc. get started. Let the camera see the real you (people respond to authenticity, btw)

Dave, you might want to check out Jerry Chen's interview and video "Is Diane Hochman the real deal?" posted here on Better Networker last fall. Get to know a bit about the woman you seem so anxious to discredit.

Don't criticize what you don't know, Dave...
It's OBVIOUS that you don't know what being a wife and mother entails, and you DEFINITELY don't know Diane Hochman!!

BTW...I'm a 60 year old grandmother and have always been a "girlie girl"...My hair is in a ponytail today, I'm in jeans and a sweatshirt and I've only had ONE professional manicure in my entire life. I do my own hair, my own nails and my own makeup. I’ve never lacked for “feeling nice” and that $$ can be spent on other things (like my 10 grandchildren!)

Anyone else remember that saying??

Diane Hochman is a VERY respected INSTRUCTOR on this very site

she was saying-

I don't need to do fancy videos and get

Diane's point was-

You don't have to be fancy, perfect, and elaborate

to build a successful business..

You just gotta be you!

Be real, be authentic,

and go on and help others achieve their dreams..

PASS IT ON!!!

that's what Diane Hochman does everyday! :)

Diane and I have been friends and colleagues for nearly 8 years and
Believe me, her kids LOVE the way she works her businesses.
They are confident, independent and courageous because of it.

And they don't want to be in the kitchen slicing and dicing with her, honest.

And they get to go to a lot of concerts . . .
(Diane offers concert and coaching week-ends).

It's a pretty great life.

She has helped and continues to help boatloads of people
who have been misguided, are spinning their wheels and almost
ready to give up.

Survey Says....Seasoned Entrepreneur!

Diane, Thank you for your honesty in this post. Many people are paralyzed by some of the thoughts that seem to plague their minds, which often affect their actions. If you don't embrace a solid foundation or philosophy, you end up being the influenced rather than the influence. Knowing self is so critical for personal transformation. I appreciate your comments and that of the other commentators because it points to the level of impact you’ve had on many people. So below I break down some things I’ve observed…

One thing I’ve learned throughout all my research years is that numbers tend to create stories if you are open and savvy to discern them. So when looking at Diane Hochman’s numbers, people certainly can see a story full of strong ties and personal impact. She is a leader that has nurtured, helped, and inspired other leaders move beyond their limitations. Thus she has been creating a lineage of sorts. I mean why people would be so inclined to respond, whether positive or negative, to her articles, videos, training calls, and even this post highlights one compelling fact: her level of influence. She is a business woman with over 10 years in the home based business industry that has used different forms of marketing as a vehicle to help many entrepreneurs, novice as well as seasoned veterans. As one of her colleagues, I say some of these numbers speak for themselves because it’s not just a few hundred people that she has impacted but more so in the 1,000s.

By looking at Diane Hochman’s social media accounts, you can see some of her impact. I say some because it only addresses some of her online interaction. Her YouTube video channel has over 190 videos (that’s not even counting a number of videos in other video sites), 355 channel comments, 213,666 upload views and over 2,200 subscribers. And let’s not forget that about 50 of those 190+ YouTube videos have over 1,000 views per video. And out of that small batch of videos, there are even still some that have over 2,000 views. These are content rich videos. Her Twitter fans total over 17,000 and on Facebook between her personal and Fan/LikePage profiles, this seasoned entrepreneur has over 8,000 followers. Yes, some of these numbers may be duplicates but let’s look at this for what it is…

Diane Hochman is perceived by many as an authority figure, a mentor, friend, and a source of business related knowledge because when credibility speaks people not only follow but they also listen.

Miriam Buhr — Tue, 06/08/2010 - 6:55pm

Everyone is entitled...

...to call it as they see it!

(doesn't mean they're wrong, they're just NOT correct)

The way I see it is...

Diane hit the nail on the head with this one...

Thanks Diane for ALWAYS keeping it REAL!

Shelly Allen — Tue, 06/08/2010 - 7:14pm

I see what you say Dave...

Hey Dave, man I see what you say. I haven't gained much from reading or listening to Diane, I just don't like that style of marketing. It may work for some but but not for others and vice versa.

The ladies seem to enjoy it which is great... if it floats your boat then float it, plus Diane has track record... which nobody can take from her.

But I like the cars and resorts and the better and bigger lifestyle look, man isn't that why most of us are here. Heck I can earn a $10,000 per month income working 9 to 5 and be home with the kids at night.

I came here for the bigger and the better, the cars, the money and everything else that goes with.

Does that make me shallow or less for being here for that. My wife and sons and wouldn't say so, and anyone elses opinion is irrelevant.

What I find interesting is that this post came AFTER a major industry launch. Coincidence? Maybe...

Greg Martin — Tue, 06/08/2010 - 8:09pm

Keeping It Real....

I have just one question...

Would you rather know the truth with no hype, honest and real

or

Glitter, Glam, 'BIG lifestyle???

When you see those sites and ads that have the flashy cars, beach scenes etc...

How do YOU know that person is telling you the truth???
How do YOU know that they are actually making money???
Can YOU trust them??

All Diane is saying in this post is to just be YOU!
With no hype, with no 'mask'
just be yourself
and that is what ATTRACTS people to you.

Your not for everybody...
only the people who are looking for you....

Thank You Diane
for being REAL, always speaking the truth and mostly
loving people enough to CARE.

Oh and by the way Greg...
Her post has nothing to do with any launch that may be happening right now...
Tha'ts NOT Diane's style!

Julie Salgado — Tue, 06/08/2010 - 8:53pm

Why the Dichotomy?

Yeh Julie I hear what your saying, no problem. I am not criticizing Diane, as mentioned she has a track record, I never take anything like that away from people.

I often find in situations like this that there is often a dichotomous view presented in that people tend to polarize around one side or the other.

I NEVER do that. My view here is this... can't we be real and have the car, the money, the resort holidays as part of it?

Can't we present a successful image of ourselves and be real at the same time?

I found Diane's article too polarizing for me... my interpretation was something like "hey you don't need to use the glitz and glamor, you just need to be real".

But my thinking is... "hey, you can do it both ways, you can use glitz and glamor AND be real about yourself in the process".

I much prefer that way than polarizing opinions. I DO NOT like marketing that comes across like "your side-my side" stuff.

You hear people using it all the time... "the gurus won't tell you this but I will" style of marketing. Or the "gurus secrets to online success that they aren't telling you".

There is polarization in that and I just flat don't like it. It's us or the gurus. Blah...

Peace...

Greg Martin — Tue, 06/08/2010 - 9:15pm

Hey David,

Sounds like your a bit upset about this post. I normally would not reply and waste my own time, but I have been on many calls/webinars with women just like Diane. You hear the kids in the back and they are on a time crunch because dinner needs finished. Its the mother nature in them. Did you know that 80% of network marketing is made up of women? Do not over think it to much. Then again while many people post negative reply s that are time wasting. Many of us are out there DWIT. My advice would be delete your post and save your self the time of not writing virtually useless words.

Thank you Dave best of luck.

Richard_Kaulfers (not verified) — Tue, 06/08/2010 - 9:25pm

Amen!

I was thinking the same thing, Cassie!!

Cathie Heath — Wed, 06/09/2010 - 8:51am

Hair

Do you guys really believe that Diane cuts her own hair and has never had her nails done?

I thought I got the dinner thing wrong once I considered further. I mean, if she's shoving a chicken in the oven wearing a headset, that's totally believable.

The picture I got in my head was her family around the dinner table while she's serving them with the headset on. NOT really present with the family in that case.

For those of you who think I don't know who she is and what she does, please take your own advice. I know about Diane Hochman. But I don't know her. I know that Cassie is one of her peeps. I know what videos she does, and I've read her stuff. I'm not just tearing her up for this one post.

I thought long and hard about this post. About 6 hrs after I posted, I decided to take it down. Thought it might come across wrong. Got that one right!

But I had to get up early and get on a plane. I tried on the plane, but it didn't work. So I got to where I was going and found all of these responses. Now I'm glad I didn't take it down.

To all who think this was a personal attack on Diane, it wasn't. I was taking issue with a concept delivered in the post. Not only that, it's one of the most incredible marketing pieces I've ever seen.

What aggravated me was the fact that I know she knew what she was doing when she wrote it. And I also knew that most wouldn't recognize it. This has been proven by your responses. If you don't know what I'm talking about, ask her. I bet she'll tell you.

The point is this. With power like that you've gotta be really careful. That's all. Everything I thought about this post and your responses exists only in my own head.

I do find it interesting that most of my post had nothing to do with anything but fact, but nobody noticed.

Here's something I noticed.

If you read my post, at the end, I say "Dang, what a load."

Did any of you consider that I was talking about what I had just written, and not the original post?

Dave Kotecki — Thu, 06/10/2010 - 1:58am

Common Ground

Hi Dave...and everyone else....

Wow...interesting response over here...

I put this on my blog a while ago and thought I'd share it over here since there is so much hoopla going on right now and so many
people write me freeking out thinking they can not get started and that they can never catch up in internet marketing.

All the comments were really positive over at the blog as the post
was just saying that it's OK to just be a regular person and that we don't need video studios in our homes or hair and make up sessions before we go on camera etc. We don't need to spend thousands on a fancy blog and that we can get started with easy low cost tools and work our way up. I wanted people to hear from someone who is kinda well known that it's OK to just get it going. I wanted people to know that even a mom who cooks dinner and folds laundry CAN do this and that it can be done with simple tools and simple techniques.

(Dave...OF COURSE I love to get my hair and nails done...I was just saying that you don't have to have a professional hair dresser do you up before getting on camera...that's all--believe it or not I have seen a female trainer who teaches people how to video market show people her hair and make up sessions before she shoots so I was counter balancing that. People are lucky if I get to comb my hair half the time hence the often present baseball cap)

One of my blessings (at least I think so) is that I was brought up in old school mlm and the moved into internet marketing so I have seen both sides and there is something to be said for the old saying "fun, simple, magical"

That's how I started in MLM and that's how I do internet marketing.

Oh sure today I know all about funnels and launching and all that good stuff. Use it all the time...In fact I'd say I am one of the best at marketing psychology which is why I get away with all the crappy technology..it's just not my bag.

But I didn't start there and that's what I want people to get...that they need CORE SKILLS and THEN you can add all the formulas you want...whether we are talking traffic, launches, PPC, SEO...none of that matters if the person is paralyzed.

In my opinion the biggest problem plaguing home business owners is poor self image---

And the key to solving that is a cycle of small little daily successes.

It's hard to become a good swimmer if you jump into the deep end on day 1...

And for most...the failure becomes a set back that haunts them for months, years or forever...knocking them out of the game...

So I wrote the article to say HEY...

Start where you are...

It's OK to be who you are and that you don't need fancy cars, beaches, hair, houses or anything else...

Just something SOLID to say or teach and a sincere desire to assist others.

So I hope that clears things up.

Thank you to all of you that shouted out some good words on my behalf.

And also to those that expressed a disagreeing stand point.

That is what Better Networker is all about...

DIALOG and DISCUSSION...

But in the end...

Don't we have to go forward with the idea that people here are moving with good intention?

I don't agree with everything my colleagues say...

Some of them I completely disagree with from a business standpoint..

But I gotta RESPECT THEM for their accomplishments and their contributions to the industry.

And I believe that they move with good intention with their info products and courses.

I believe they are speaking to their marketplace and filling a need that people have...otherwise they would have no sales or following.

I speak into and for MY marketplace...my constituency..which is not the fanciest or most technogically advanced crowd...

And I like it that way. In fact I designed it that way.

And it is those folks that I will always write for and do videos for...

And people on the other side of the fence may not like my stuff...

But I do ask that they respect it.

And Dave...I am smiling...cause in the end I got a rise out of you...

And you and I know that that is half the game in marketing :)

You are a cowboy in Afganistan...

And me...I am a cowgirl in fuzzy slippers...

But I kinda think that somehow we are cut of the same grain...

Pioneer Doers that GET ER DONE no matter what it takes...

And I think that is some common ground we can stand on.

Diane Hochman — Fri, 06/11/2010 - 9:05pm

Thanks!

I liked this because it hit me where I'm at now. I don't have fancy videos or a professionally done website, but I have the drive and ambition to get where I want to be with my time and finances. Thanks for writing, I enjoyed it.

Drew Fail — Mon, 06/14/2010 - 11:14am

Thanks for being real

Thanks for letting others know that all they need is to be authentic! Just be themselves.
Usually this is enough. For some, like myself, it is difficult to get in front of a camera.
You are just yourself and you let others connect with you by way of them relating to
"you" and your style, your message, your inspiration.
Just like music and movies, we are attracted to what we find stimulating and exciting.
The same goes for relationships built and nurtured online.
Don't worry about those that don't like you, concentrate on those that connect
with you and "vibrate" with you. The like minded people that share in your values
and ideals will automatically resonate and relate with you. And, you will ultimately
inspire those that think and believe that they themselves cannot do internet
marketing.
We bring something of value to others, and you Diane, most definitely do bring
amazing value.
Keep on the good work!

It's all about copywriting

This post is a great example of good copywriting.
She is selling herself from an angle of a story.

The "I'm just like you" story.

And it's contrarian.

Do what the others are not doing.

And there's people who this absolutely will REPEL, but because people are looking for an authentic leader they can trust, I can guarantee this post will resonate with a whole whack of people.

And she'll get hits, and opt-ins and leader and sales from it.

Here's an example of low-key connecting AND using a fancy lower-third graphic.

But Diane is spot on about one thing about videos. Sometimes the editing is too much trouble for what it's worth.

You can get up more simple videos quicker than by wasting time with lower-thirds.

Well well! How refreshing!

Exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks Diane. Would you believe I just got rid of everything except my basic business opportunity and Mike's training?

I blew all my savings on PPC and now that I am broke again I am forced to re-learn the basics, like writing and talking. Could this be a blessing in disguise?

Just Keeping It Real!

This was a great article! I see a lot of marketers over do it with fancy cars, big homes, etc.. yes the stuff that they have are very enticing but lets be real, 90% or more of the people looking at what you have do not believe that they can obtain the same success. I found out that if you keep it simple and relate to people more, eventually you're business will start to grow. Thanks Diane for the article.

Fancy Videos

Well, all I can say is you are correct in your thoughts on keeping it simple. How many times have we received ads in our email about how we can make 10's of thousands of dollars a month? Seems like every other time I get an email from someone that I have joined they are trying to sell me something. Or they are going to have a new launch and I need to take action now or I'll miss the boat,,, again. What a bunch of garbage. If only more people were honest and true about wanting to help others get ahead, then this would indeed be a great business to be in. Thank you so very much for your part in doing just this. I look forward to seeing more of your blogs and emails.

The Game Of Marketing Is Knowing How To Play

As I read Daves Post then all the LOYAL followers of Diane's I chuckled.. Diane has them eating out of the palms of her hands! I sat here not so much in defense for Diane as I was in utter amazement and BElief that Diane is making her moves with the precision of a scientist trying to put a cap on the oil spill in the Gulf. Have you watched any of that? The Best of The Best MINDS working together to find a solution! Hmmmm? Sorta kinda the same thing.. Oh, let me set the record straight I AM a Loyal student of Diane Hochman...I owe MOST of what I know about people, More of what I know about myself and ALL of what I know about this industry to her and my other teacher. Here's to keeping it real Diane while "playing" masterfully among the multitudes who only dream of doing what you have done! And who could IF they would just take the time to LEARN to EARN... I love ya!

Diane Hochman is a scammer? Again?

Anyone remember what happened when that question was asked the last time around?

How interesting that whenever Diane's credibility is put in some type of questionable light, we see these ESSAYS of responses (LOL).

A reflection of the human tribal nature.

A passionate tribe she's got, huh :D

I guess we don't need to keep marching on to defend who's right (although, again, human nature prevails and some of us will continue to do that forever and ever and ever... hehehe.)

What's your favorite flavor of ice cream, Diane?

Vanilla?

Wow, Diane. Great comment, makes me feel better.

Thanks for article, really. When I began reading your article, I started thinking about me, trying to have everything ready to start my video on teaching Spanish for entrepreneurs. So I was trying to save money to get the best video camera and get this and get that. You are right on the point, start with whatever you got, start from there and work your way up.

Thanks my dear Diane, this opened my eyes.

As always, God belss you and bless all those marketers out there.

An Apology

I was recently reminded that I posted on this article and I was told that I had attacked Diane. I didn't believe it, because I am careful about what I say, especially in writing.

When I came back and looked at my comment, I realized that it was simply not appropriate.

I was completely out of line and I went too far.

I hope that all who read this will accept my sincere apology to Diane Hochman. It was not my intention to be disrespectful to her, or to you.
