Is it Time to Take Action in Your Business?

"The strongest support you will ever get on not taking action always comes from those who never took action.”

Garrison Wynn Motivational Speaker and Author

Maybe things are going pretty well in your business.  Maybe they aren’t. Either way, if a new idea comes along you have a decision to make on whether or not to go with it. If things are going well, that might be a difficult decision.  After all, we’ve all heard the old saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Yet, we all worry about staying ahead of the curve and being innovative. If things aren’t going too well, the decision might be somewhat easier. After all, what have you got to lose right?

Change is one of the hardest things for human beings to accept. We are all creatures of habit one way or another. Since we do have such a hard time with change, we often go to others for their advice when we are considering a change of any type, including a change in our business. We debate whether we should or not. Sometimes we even debate whether it is right or not. The bottom line is this is your business. By not taking action when the opportunity arises, you can miss out on something great. That doesn’t mean you should do something unethical, but if the opportunity is there, don’t waste it.

There are many people who are afraid of change. They will do anything to avoid it. You should probably not be asking those types of people about changes you are thinking of making in your business. So, when you are taking advice, consider the source. Is this someone who has taken action in their lives or in their business? Is this someone that struggles with change? Even if this is someone you are close to or often take advice from, keep in mind they may not be thinking about the best interest of your business (although they may think that they are just looking out for you.) It is always easier to stick with the status quo.

In his book, The Real Truth About Success, Garrison Wynn tells the story of a very successful woman realtor whose husband was the CEO of a large company that frequently relocated people. She thought it might be unethical for her to have a list of these people and a friend she consulted thought so too. As it turned out, the list was private but available to anyone upon request. Think of the opportunities she would have missed if she had not ever asked for the list!

Opportunities do not come along very often and they can come in many forms. Whether the opportunity is an idea, a contact, a system, or access to some kind of information that can help you in your business, don’t take it lightly. Once you have determined that it is not unethical or illegal, don’t be afraid to implement it into your business and don’t be distracted by the people that prefer inaction.
