For Love or Money

I have some questions for you to ponder! 

1) How far are you willing to go to achieve success?
2) What standards are you willing to compromise?
3) What sacrifices are you willing to make?

Have you ever wanted something so bad that you were willing to do almost anything to acquire it? In the movie, For Love or Money, Michael J. Fox plays an ambitious hotel concierge, who wants to own a hotel. In this story, we see a guy who is willing to go to great lengths to acquire what he wants. He runs into two problems.
1) He has a soft spot for people! 
2) He falls is love!

I won’t give away the story, but I do encourage you to check the movie out. It’s a great reminder that success by any means possible comes with a price tag. 

During this holiday season, I am blessed to be surrounded by family and friends. I wonder how many people are spending the holidays alone. Perhaps it’s by choice. Perhaps is because they made some bad choices in life and have alienated the ones they love. There is nothing wrong with success. There is nothing wrong with acquiring wealth. My senior pastor once said, “God doesn’t mind if you have stuff. He doesn’t want stuff to have you.” 

Two points to ponder. 

1) People Matter! Don’t ever think that the path to success runs through and over people! It does however run with people! Notice the distinction of the preposition I used “with” instead of “through and over.” Watch the movie and learn the lesson that bellhop Doug learned.

2) Establish your priorities but don’t compromise your integrity! 

It’s okay to have dreams. There are so many wonderful and successful people who have lived life the right way and have achieved great success. I count Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-Fil-a, to be a man who has inspired me greatly. I have never met the man, but I have read some of his books and have frequented his restaurants.

I admire Mr. Cathy because of his adherence to the golden rule. He has achieved great success, and because of this, he has given back much more than he has received. I think Mr. Cathy figured out early in his business career that the path to success is “with” people not “over” people!
