Network Marketing = Get Rich Quick ... Or the Reverse?

It never ceases to amuse me that people wanting to earn money quick look upon network marketing as the means. In fact, I have been in many a conversation where network marketing is actually looked down upon because it's just some shady means to earn money quick. Not true!

For those of us who know the network marketing business from inside since years, we know where this notion comes from. It comes from an eagerness of a newbie to have his friends 'join' him so everyone can earn money quick and be free for the rest of their lives.

In a month on two the newbie realizes that it is not about what he thinks and that (plus other people's rebukes) throws him totally out of circulation. These are 'corpses' as we know them. But then there are also a few that do not die. What the gain is a sense of perspective. They realize that network marketing is not about the little change that one can make by selling a bit of product. In fact it is a truck-load of money that can be made by diverting consumption habits of a network of people.

Now, armed with this knowledge, again network marketing appears to be a way to earn money quick. Because in just 3 to 5 years of network building anyone with the right networking education and work ethic would be able to replace their entire incomes. And these incomes have been derived from numerous years of schooling and work experience... typically more than ten times as much in terms of time.

If what can be achieved in 30 years is now possible in 3, surely 'quick' is the operative word. But again I would caution you. Because while it may be a quick replacement of your 'work' income, your network is being built to outlast you.

The wise words of John Keats play in the mind as I ruminate over this. "A thing of beauty is a joy forever." If your network is to be an asset that provides royalties for generations, it needs to be built with a mindset and a dedication of a 'thing of beauty'. This means you must perfect the art of networking and get completely out of the mindset that says I want to earn money quick.

This mindset is one of a hasty person and not one of someone out to create a joy forever. What you need to do is to understand the meanings of the words balance, symmetry, desire, love and anguish in ways that nobody can ever explain to you. You need to feel them. They need to become you. And you will be there... earning money quick!
