Overwhelm Can't Beat You If You Can Identify It

Overwhelm Will Ruin Your Business

I have been involved in network marketing for over ten years now off and on and nothing has caused more damage to my business then overwhelm.  And I have no doubt that if your currently involved in network marketing right now, you no doubt have suffered or are suffering from overwhelm.  But have faith because there are some things that you can do to help you avoid overwhelm altogether and actually enjoy your business as something fun, rather than it being a lot like having a J.O.B.

Understanding Overwhelm And What It Leads To

Over the course of my internet network marketing "career" I have come to the point several times where overwhelm has completely taken over my day to day tasks.  I thought that if I signed up to the latest course or bought the latest program that there was no way I could fail.  The problem was I still failed.  I failed because I overwhelm set in rather quickly.

I had purchased at least ten courses at one point and only had the time to go through one.  The rest set on the shelves in my house or even worse.  Once course I purchased was actually a web based course.  By the time I actually got around to looking at it, the owners had closed down the site.  Talk about throwing money away.

And then there are the overwhelm created by email.  I signed up to all the leaders and 'guru's' lists to get the latest information on marketing techniques that we making them money.  Or to hear about how they became successful.  At one time I was getting about 500 emails a day from various people and sites that proclaimed to be giving me the next big thing.  In the end all would end up doing is deleting 90% of them because I just couldn't keep up.

Or worse yet I would set a specific email aside thinking that I would come back to it later and look at the information more closely to see if it really applied to me.  I never got around to doing it of course because the next day there would be another set of emails giving me today's next big thing.  Overwhelm became an endless cycle for me and I couldn't shake it.

Overwhelm Became Procrastination

Well what really ending up happening was I would sit behind my computer hours on end looking at stuff.  Watching videos. Reading blogs or email and taking about as much action as a sloth.  I was telling myself that I was working on my business but really all I was doing to procrastinating on the work at hand.  Overwhelm kept piling on and I kept pushing off more and more.

Bought a new course to show me how to get leads.  Overwhelm said "You can look at it tomarrow Clint, it will be alright."  Bought a new course that is drip feed over four weeks.  Overwhelm said "You can wait till they are all there, then look at it later Clint, it will be alright."  Creating a product about using Facebook for SEO Traffic.  Overwhelm said "Its your course, take your time and do it tomorrow Clint, it will be alright."

Of course when tomorrow came, overwhelm said "One more day isn't going to hurt anything."  But it did.  It hurt everything I was doing.

Overwhelm Became Distraction

So I pushed off doing anything and then I feel in love with Facebook.  And I told myself I am going to learn how to market on Facebook.  Lets check it out and see what its all about.  And I found some great people who had conquered their overwhelm.  And I also found all these cool pictures to look at.  I found all these great video's to watch.  I found a few groups where cool people were hanging out.  Overwhelm said it was ok though, your learning Facebook.  Distraction said learn it here on YouTube too.

So there I was in a complete state of overwhelm, distracting myself watching talking baby's sell stuff.  Funny dog video's displaying how a dog can howl the "Who let the dogs out" song.  And pretty much everything in between.  Man those video's were funny, overwhelm and distraction were getting their way.  But it's ok, I can implement my Facebook training tomorrow procrastination said.

Andrew Cass helped me beat down overwhelm and the rest ran away?

Now truth be told I have never been really into the personal development thing.  Listening to people tell me I need to think like a millionaire and all that other stuff really wasn't my thing.  I am a network marketer, I know I can make this work I don't need that stuff right

Personal development is something for people who are weak and can't think for themselves so they pay someone to tell them how they should think right? WRONG!!

I was first exposed to Andrew Cass when I was watching some recordings of a network marketing event that was held last year.  He put me to sleep at first.  Literally.  My wife was actually a bit upset with me cause I was making her watch them with me and she's there watching away and sewing at the same time and looks over to see me knocked out.  She wakes me up with that look wives give their husbands at times like this and overwhelm said "Its ok, I can watch it tomorrow."

Tomarrow came and I did watch it.  All the way through and I was hooked.

Everything he said about overwhelm, procrastination, and distraction all applied to me.  And it was a big slap in the face with a wet tuna.

So I set to learning more about his teachings.  Learning about personal development.  Learning about conquering overwhelm once and for all.  I did it by reading through Andrew's course called Extreme Productivity Secrets and I tell you overwhelm has never come back.  At least not to the extent that it affects me anymore.

These days I control my overwhelm.  I have a daily schedule of things I need to do everyday.  And by having that schedule I know what I can take on and what I can't.  At times, if I find that I have taken on too much I just reset and go back to my original daily schedule.  Since I know it works and its effective I never have to worry about hurting my efforts or my business.

Here is what a typical weekday looks like for me.

4:30 AM - Get up, take a shower, make some coffee

5:30 AM - Leave the house and head off to the J.O.B (I love my job and I can retire soon so I don't mind)

6:30 AM - Starting my physical fitness, usually involves a lot of heavy breathing at the gym on a bike.  I also take advantage of this time to listen to a personal development audio.  Kicking overwhelm's butt now.

7:45 AM - Back home, showering again (might be why I have dry skin, but no overwhelm)

8:30 AM - Back to the J.O.B.

5:30 PM - Back home, hungry and a little overwhelm has set in cause I just spend 45 minutes in traffic

6:00 PM - Sitting down to write a blog post.  I have a timer set to one hour so I know when its time to get up.

7:00 PM - Ten minute break time!

7:10 PM - Sitting down to syndicate my post and make read some blog posts of other syndication tribe member site.  I get backlinks from doing this and tons of content ideas for tomorrow's blog post.

8:10 PM - 20 minute break.  Officially I am done and overwhelm is all gone by now.  I don't need to do anything else in but I usually come back and chat it up with a coaching student I picked up or what ever I feel like doing.  YouTube gets a lot of hit right about then too.

9:30 PM - Time to spend time with the wife, overwhelm gets to set in sometimes at this point because she talks a lot but I love her so its ok.

10:30 PM - Time for bed, overwhelm gets to plan its assault for tomorrow and I get my beauty sleep.  (Not that I need it :) )

That's it, that's my daily plan.  If I want to watch a webinar and learn something.  Great, but can I get everything done afterwards?  If so, then I attend the webinar.  If not, I don't let overwhelm win.  I just don't attend it.  I use this daily plan to inject new things into my business.  But I don't let overwhelm do it for me anymore.  I control my overwhelm, I control my procrastination, I control my distractions and that is truly what personal development is all about.

What is your daily plan?
