Why People Fail in Network Marketing
Over 90% of the people who join network marketing companies will fail. Many will fail over and over. Here are some of the reasons. Evaluate your own network marketing career. Make the necessary changes and you will achieve high levels of success! Here are main reasons why people fail in network marketing:
1. Select the wrong company - company goes out of business. Before you invest your time and money, make sure you have selected a company that is financially strong, well managed, has all the necessary infrastructure to handle momentum growth, and has a long-term plan that is beneficial to the distributors.
2. Select the wrong upline - no training or support. Make sure you are working with an upline group that has been successful, has the time to work with you personally, has proven training and marketing programs in place that you can use.
3. No purpose for being in business - if the "why?" is strong enough, the "how" is not as important.
4. No written goals - you must determine your goals, write them on a piece of paper, develop a plan of action, schedule daily activities that will take you to your goals.
5. Focused on making money - money is important, but your focus should be on helping others succeed. Zig Ziglar once said that "you can have everything you want, if you just help enough other people get what they want." Go out to make friends and help them become successful and you will also be successful.
6. Treat their business like a hobby - you must give your business consistent hours every day. If you treat it like a hobby (do things whenever you have some spare time), you will get paid like a hobby. If you treat it like a business (plan your work and work your plan daily), you will get paid like a BIG business!
7. Don't contact enough people - your job is to be a messenger. Take the message about your company, products, and opportunity out to as many people as is humanly possible each day. Don't worry about those who are not interested. You are just sifting for those who are. If you were to contact just one new person every day (six days a week), you would make 312 new contacts per year. If you just sponsored 10% of those, you would have 31 new distributors each year. What if they just duplicated what you did. WOW!
8. Blame - they blame their upline, the company, the compensation plan, and the products for their failure. This is YOUR business and YOUR responsibility. If you have chosen the right company and upline, then your success or failure falls squarely on your shoulders.
9. Impatience - most people get too impatient and quit with success just around the corner. This is a business and it takes time to build. If you were building a traditional business, it would take 3 to 5 years before you were actually making any money. In network marketing, you can do this in a matter of months. Be patient and never quit.
10. Takes NO personally - people are going to tell you NO. It's not the right time in their life for what you are offering. They are not rejecting you, but rather the opportunity or products. Don't take it personally, just stay in touch with the person, so when the time is right, you will be there.

Excellent Article
Tremendous content in this article Rod! The current state of our economy was driven by a "me first", "instant gratification" mindset. If we can communicate our message consistently and continue to build a downline of people who understand that "Rome wasn't built in a day", perhaps we as network marketers might transform our little segment of society!
Economic stimulus would occur if people would adhere to some "golden rule" principles and apply them daily!

Good Post
Good Post Rod,
The above Brings up an important thought in how to develop and have success in any endeavor of life and especially in the industry of a home based business.
For most it is a very strange and unknown field. Since birth most have been programed to become an Employee for someone else and a person thinks differently as an Employee than how a Business Owner Thinks.
The challenge then is to be WILLING to change the way we think, in order to change our attitude on how we perceive what we can achieve.
I hope those that may read this post will understand this industry is doable and they all can have whatever success they are looking for, as long as they are WILLING to grow and DO the steps, as they learn HOW TO BE A BUSINESS OWNER by THINKING AND DOING the right steps for success.
It may not be EASY but it is SIMPLE.
Every successful person in any field had and continues to have the right coach and mentor.
Wax on Wax off.... May not make sense at first but what is accomplished by doing it, was exactly what was needed. (for those that may not know it is from the movie Karate Kid)
Ongoing Training on oneself is the the key.
Preparation = Confidence = Success
You may not like to practice but without it you will NEVER WIN, whether it be a sport or a business.
Be Blessed All,
Robert
Keeping it real...
People QUIT on themselves.
Many people come to this industry
with the mindset of the dependent
employee and REFUSE to change that
mindset and it's POISON.
It's poison no matter if they join
the "right" or the "wrong" company.
A true entrepreneur MAKES THINGS HAPPEN
and is not totally dependent on "companies"
needing to be perfect or in "upline" or
"systems" - An ENTREPRENEUR skilled in
PERSONAL GROWTH skills will MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Most don't.
It's IMPOSSIBLE to tell what will happen
to your "right" company in the future.
Nobody has a crystal ball that works.
Many times the over analytical will
agonize and pick a "right" company
only to realize they don't get paid
squat - and that the company keeps
most of the riches...
The ENTREPRENEURIAL mindset sees
things for themselves and gets it done.
They generate profits and in this industry
they do it by uplifting, inspiring and MOVING
people to take actions that are productive.
No guarantees.
No regrets.
The Entrepreneurial mindset.
People either "get it" and love it.
Or they DESPISE it because there is
no place to hide inside this mindset.
Some strongly prefer the "ho-hum"
employee "please don't hurt my feelings"
mindset and they make excuses or blame
things and people outside themselves.
That's deep. But it's bank.

Why People Fail..
Thanks for that, it is about getting them to see a different point of view. Most people have been conditioned to be employees, they are interested in making money but they don't know how to be business owners!
Thank you.
Great article for those of us who are just starting.
Good comment Rod. It is up to us to make it in the MLM arena.
Very straight forward comment Rod. Yes, at some point is the company or the product that matters, but the main thing is to help people just for the joy of it, and this will transform your business.
Keep your hard work Rod, and as always, Blessings.

Starting with Why
Glad to see that you mention the "why" of starting the business. I personally feel this is #1 - not #3. Without a solid inspirational "why" - it is difficult to develop sustained motivation!

Right on Target!
Thanks, Rod. Great info for newcomers, and great reminders for old timers!
Great Information!
Taking personal responsibility for your business growth is key! Too many people blame others for their lack of success; when in fact the key driver is you! If it was that easy to make millions of dollars in direct sales or MLM everyone would do it!
You are so correct in the fact that you must be clear about your goals and objectives! Having a long-term view of your business and leading with value is best! Gaining exposure to people by being a solutions provider works best verses being a direct promoter of your business! Great post!

Some People Should Not Be In This Industry
Great post Rod, and one most people new to this industry should read.
However, the one point you missed is that not everyone is right for Network Marketing, just as Network Marketing is not right for everyone.
If a person wants to build a Network Marketing business, but is not willing to work on himself or herself, than nothing else matters.
If just being in the right company is what causes people to have success, than everyone in that company would be successful.
If everyone is sponsored by an upline that has proven themselves as successful and has a plan and system others could easily follow in place, than they all should be successful by doing the same. However, most are not.
If a person has a very strong reason for why they want to build, and they have their goals written down, they can still fail if they are not willing to work on themselves.
In fact, all of your ten points on why people fail are true. But if they are unwilling to change some of the habits they have grown into over the years that hold them back from success, then picking the right company, upline, or anything else, will simply keep them in the majority who fail in this industry every year.
Being the right person can turn a failing business into success.
You need a Proven Recipe to make it work!!!
Thank you for your content.
Here is why most people fail in any business not just in MLM.
1.They don`t learn from the people who has already done it.
2.They don`t have the Proven Recipe on How to Build a Perpetual Money Making Machine.
3.They don`t follow the required steps long enough to see the results.
Btw: For those who don`t have the Proven Recipe and don`t know the right people here is the only organization on the Planet who can really help you build your long term money making system guaranteed.

This is a great article and it is so true. So many quit when the going gets tough. This is also great reminders for us that have been around for awhile as well!

Awesome Post
You have got the reasons down here and wish everyone could read this before starting online - keep up the great work and thanks for sharing
Excellent information!
Rod, appreciate all you have shared over the last thirteen years we've known each other! You have always been one of my favorite teachers.
It's great to be working with you again!
Will post this on my blog to pass it on!

Great Info!
Especially for one who is trying to find their way! I am going to put this information to use immediately, I don't want to be one who fails! Thanks!
Awesome article!!
It's helped me figure out why I failed in past opportunities. Thanks for the great content!!
Fantastic article!
I can especially relate to #2. On more than one occasion I chose the wrong upline. (It's not always best to join top money earners of a company. They are often too busy to support you.)
Good thing I am self-motivated and know where to go for answers if I need them. But someone brand new to the industry would be lost in the cracks.
Number 10 was a biggie for me in the beginning until I figured out ... it wasn't personal. Newbies don't realize that and can get discouraged easily if they don't have upline support.
Again, fantastic article! Thanks for sharing it!
Great Subject
Rod,
I agree with most of your article, great content, people have to be serious, realize that this business is about people helping people, whether it be with products or helping others build their businesses. We do have to look at it as what can I do to help others as opposed to what's in it for me!
Personal development is extremely important and it has to be done consistently so that it gets results. We have to become that positive person who attracts others to them because of their positive nature. I joined a mental cleanse group that has been instrumental in helping me oust out the negative and bring on the positive, when I look back I say to myself, why would anyone have wanted to"join me"?
This business is a way of Life, not a part time job at a fast food restaurant. In this business how I act, what I do, how I do it affects lives, so I need to be responsible with what I am doing.
I need to research any company I join, especially their policies and procedures and their compensation plan for both myself and for the team I want to build. I want to make sure there is support and a duplicable system. I realize that some will quit, any excuse will do, I need to not take it personally and let them know that when and if they are ready I will still be there for them.
Thank you for bringing up this subject, it is a very useful one.
EXCELLENT
Thank you for the post.
It's awsome!.
Curro Avalos.
WELL APPRECIATED
thanks for the precautions Rod. :D
The Why
Rick,
I completely agree with you. The Why is number one of importance once a person has chosen the right company and upline team. It's what will keep them going through the tough times. When I train, I have my new distributors develop a M.A.P. - Marketing Action Plan. In that exercise they map out their course to success, which includes solidly identifying their why and then the goals and daily objectives that will get them to the why. This way they know from day to day exactly what to do and always have their why right in front of them to keep them motivated.
Thanks for bringing this up, Rick!
Rod
Some people still don't get it!
Great info Rod...hit it right on the head my friend! Even with all the help and assistance we offer to give people they still just "Don't Get It"...people really need a good company and need us. I wish everyone the best but they will have to wake up someday and realize they have to take the responsibility for their own well being and success.
Do you think possibly we all try too hard sometimes only because we want to make it easier for our associates?
Don
90% of people in Network Marketing stop as opposed to fail
The only route to success is via failure. If your have neve failed then you have never pushed yourself. In fact the only way to learn is by failure.
Your first attenpt at walking resulted in failure you fell over. Then you got up and tried again until you succeeded.
So the correct statistic is that 90% of peoiple join network marketing stop, stopping is a concsious choice and is completely different from failing.
Whilst I applaud the sentiment of your article this is a well discussed and widely known statistic in success thinkers.
This information is available in all the classic books on success starting with probably the best - The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles.
A clear understanding of the difference between stopping something and failing at something is the sign of a clear Leader.
Exam to pass the bar needed
I believe if there was a standardized test to take upon entry of any company or system, the failing/stopping rate would be considerably reduced. Of course, 90% of the test should be focused on mind-set.
Most other industries have mandatory testing, why not ours? Now more than ever because of the influx of people checking out our industry because of the downward spiraling economy. By the way, you made a very good point there Andrew.
Thanks for this Rod.
JC
You got me...
Point 5 is my one. I focus on money!
I think this is why I am not a 6 figure income earner in Network Marketing today.
I have to change this!
Thanks for opening my eyes!
