 Why you should begin with the Beginning in Mind!

I have heard it said and once agreed that I should begin with the end in mind…yet I now stand believing one should always begin with the next beginning in mind. Why? It will bring you to a place of emotional & physical excitement & anticipation that will hurl you over any obstacle that stands in your way.

Just think of any of the major events in your life and how the planning and anticipation of them moved you from hurdle to hurdle by the shear excitement. How about preparing to go off to college, preparing for your wedding day or the birth of a child, a big vacation, the event was bigger than the little problems that pop up along the way and so the beginning of that event propelled you, kept you laser focused.

How about the big blockbusters at the theaters these days, they are scripted not with the end of the movie in mind but the beginning of movie two, three or four in mind. At the end of the film we are left thirsty for the next movie, we can hardly wait for it to be released to see how it will end…or rather, how will it “set up” the beginning of the next movie in the series. It becomes an addiction of sorts, how many Star Wars movies are there anyway? It leaves us craving more, waiting with expectation for the next chapter. Hey, what about Jack Bauer and the TV blockbuster “24”, every hour builds to the next, people plan a whole season of get together’s to make sure they don’t miss a second of the excitement. These folks are master story tellers.

And so for life, your life, who is writing your story? Do you live as though you just can’t wait for the day to come to an end, or do you live each day as though you were “setting up” the next scene, bursting with excitement for the next day?

Think about it…this shift in thinking will usher you into a mindset of building decade upon decade, year upon year, month upon month, day upon day, moment upon moment. It will have you thankful for the last moment, but thirsty for the next.

Apply it to your business.

Begin with the Beginning in Mind.

1. The beginning of tomorrow, next week, next month, next year…How do you want the script of your life written? Will it leave those you meet along the way thirsty for more of you?

2. Ask yourself, “What is the one thing I can do today to “set myself up” for the best tomorrow? What one call can I make, what one task can I complete, what one book can I read what one CD can I listen to, what one person can I encourage?

3. Don’t let anything stand between you and that “one thing”…picture yourself in the scene, completing the task, direct yourself through the steps until you complete the task.

Now watch and see how your thirst grows and your anticipation mounts as you realize with a bursting excitement that one day has not come to an end…but rather a new day is about to BEGIN!
